I've been avoiding the good ole Avengers and their kids all day today. I'm partially embarrassed by how I was acting, and I'm also still mad at them.
I haven't been able to see my dad all day. Guards have been going in and out of the room a lot. It really annoys me.
I check the hall for the thousandth time today. Clear. Finally! Gosh, these guys seriously need to find a better place to eat their donuts. I mean, do they think standing by a god is somehow going to make them smart or powerful? I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they're taking selfies with my dad in the background.
I slip into the room quietly. " Aura? "
" Yup. It's me, daddy. I'm sorry I couldn't have come earlier. There were a bunch of goons sitting outside your door. "
" I know. I heard them. It's quite alright. How are you darling? " My dad sits cross-legged in front of me. I smile.
" Good. I've been avoiding the brat and everyone else. I don't need to talk to them. I only saw Marissa this morning when I got something to eat. She's okay. "
" That is Banner's kid, right? "
" Yeah. That's her. She's pretty sweet. Super smart and shy. "
" How about that boy you were talking about the other day? Chase, I think? Stark's other child. "
I blush a little. " Um, he's good. "
" Oh quit the act Aura. I'm your father. I can tell when you have a crush on someone. "
" I do not have a crush on him! I just think he's cool. " I defend myself. " We're just friends. "
" Sure. Just friends. Is that not what everyone says before they end updating the other person they are talking about? " My dad teases. His famous smirk, the same one I have, makes me smile a bit.
" I do not have a crush on him. "
" I definitely believe you. "
" Oh stop it, daddy. I don't have a crush on him. He's too..... " What? He is too what? Perfect. Cute? No. I can't say those things. " Chase is related to Mia. I don't want to have to deal with her forever. "
" What is he good at? "
" What do you mean? " I ask a little confused.
" Powers. Skills. "
" He's great at hacking. Programming. Awesome with weapons, just like his parents. And he knows Kung fu. "
" Boy. It sounds like a keeper. " My dad teases.
I blush. " Oh, hush. " I sigh. " As soon as I am old enough, maybe sooner than that, I'm getting us both out of here. I'm leaving the Avengers and their perfect little lives, and getting you out of here. "
" You know that is a big risk Darling. You will be wanted with a price over your head. I cannot have that Aura. I'm a criminal. You'd be better off without having me with you. I'll only bring danger to both of us. " My dad says softly.
" You are not a criminal! " I say loudly. " You are simply misunderstood. I want to be with you daddy. I don't care if people come after me. At least I'll be able to see you. Hug you. Give your drawings I make. I'm tired of looking at you through this glass prison. They treat you like an animal! "
" Aura. I did bad things. "
" I know. I've done bad things too! I've killed two grown men for heaven's sake! " I pull at my hair. " I am going to break you out of here daddy. I can't let you rot away in here. "
" Aura. Calm down, honey. I don't want you to get in trouble. " My dad says trying to change my mind.
" I don't freaking care if I get in trouble. The most they'll do is ground me and deprive me of electronics for a week. No, less. They can't bring themselves to do more. They dragged me away from you, and now they feel guilty. "
" This is a different Aura. You will be committing a major crime. This is different than murdering two homeless men that attacked you. You will be releasing a murder. "
I am quiet for a minute. " I am not leaving you here. " I whisper with some tears pricking the back of my eyes.
" You didn't mean to do what you did. "
