" How was your day? " Clint asks me as I drop my stuff on the table.

" Just perfect. I wrote a paper about my dad's fake career in running a business. "

" What? "

" My teacher made us write about our parents' careers. Obviously, I can't tell them my dad's a god and a prince. I'll look like the weirdo from sixth grade. So, I needed to think of something my dad supposedly does for work. "

" Oh. " Clint rubs the back of his neck, something he does when he's nervous or feels bad about something.

" Yeah. Oh. " I nod.

" Well, did you do anything else that's interesting? "

" Nope. I just learned a bunch of junk. "

" It's not junk. "

" Says the man who literally started a petition to stop the school from sending homework home with kids. "

" Hey, he did what no parents have ever done before. " Clayton says defending his dad.

I shrug. " School's a waste of time. "

" In some countries, kids would kill to go to school. "

" Wouldn't I love to live in one of those countries. " I roll my eyes and grab my bag.

" Where are you going? " Ryan asks biting into a cookie.

" To my room. " I ruffle my cousin's hair.

I pass Steve and Bruce in the hall. I miss my dad. My heart hurt really badly sometimes. It feels like someone ripped part of my heart out. I want to see him. To hug him. To have him brush my hair and tell me stories. I want to be able to hug him.

But, that might never happen.

Not without a little persuasion.

Or threats. Whichever one works.
