Edenbrook, the workplace of my dreams. Ever since I heard of Dr.Ethan Ramsey, I followed him like a hawk follows it's prey. His research, his lectures, his book were all a source of inspiration for me and ever since he landed in Edenbrook I knew that it is where I have to go too.
As a young man, he is the source of my inspiration and it felt unreal when two days ago I got a call from Edenbrook stating that I bagged the internship. A dream come true, a blurred vision that was finally cleared and a missing peice in my life that was finally filled perfectly.
I take some hair wax on my fingertips and use it to spike my hair. They are trimmed from the sides to the much liking of my Mom. She hated it when I grew my hair out. They almost reached right below my earlobes when I finally got them cut after giving my final exam.
Med School does that to you. You lose track of time as well as yourself. No wonder I had no serious relationship throughout my time at med school. I wear a well pressed cotton shirt with a black pant and tie. I desperately want to make an impression before eventually changing into my scrubs. I also wear my shiny circular crystal earring in my left ear only. It looks just like a diamond but isn't one in reality and everyone will be sure of it when they know that I am a fresh graduate from med school and that my Dad is not a rich hotshot.
My Mom has been a single mother ever since a year after my birth. Dad left us for guess what... another woman of course! He paid child support for a few years then stopped when I was sixteen. Mom worked as a bank manager and was so done with Dad that she did not go to court against him. She had my custody for life and that's all she wanted.
I read her text
'Best of luck on first day hon. Don't get lost in Boston and make sure you eat something boy or I'll pay you an untimely visit'I reply with a smiley emoji and then sit on my Royal Enfield. The bike is a 1989 model and I bought it for almost nothing from an old neighbour back at home in San Francisco.
He was an old ex-army man who had it imported from India when he was still in the military. I restored this beauty in a span of a year and it works as fine as butter now.
Right now my beauty is facing her worst nightmare and so am I. The traffic is horrendous and there is honking all around me. It is 5:43 in the morning already and my shift starts exactly at 6:00 AM. I should have been at the hospital by now. I don't have my ID card yet, I am late already and all my plans to make a startling first impression have gone down the drain.
Seeing no point in waiting on the road I take a more reckless approach. The streets. People passing by are cursing me as I drive past them on my motorcycle "Sorry, coming through" and occasional honking is all I can do to warn them of my unexpected arrival.
When I'm finally in Edenbrook's parking lot it is already half past six. After parking my bike in an empty spot I shamelessly use my tie to wipe the sweat on my forehead and nose. I dash inside through the main entrance and find a doctor with curly brown hair standing wide eyed behind the reception desk "Apologies!I am late. I got stuck in the traffic" I pant
"Welcome Dr.Felix Alexander. At least you came here safely. Here is your badge and the briefing for all the interns shall start in half an hour" she says calmly while handing me my ID card.
I don't look that good in the picture but that's fine. Extremely dark brown hair, chocolate brown eyes and no facial hair. People at med school always recommended me to take up modelling especially after I started building my body at the gym. I never paid heed to it but now that I think of it... "Dr.Alexander?" The curly haired doctor looks at me curiously.
