Risky Business

I am in an indescribable state of mind. Consciously yet unconsciously I am playing with the round crystal earring on my right ear. I cannot decide for Mrs. Martinez. On one hand is my reasonable side that asks me to deny her the treatment while on the opposite hand my emotional side warns me of the consequences of denying to help her. I don't even want to imagine the disappointment I would see in her warm eyes when I will tell her that I can't help. She wants to do this, she is willing to take the risk... but she is absolutely ignoring the perils of the treatment and most importantly, even if I decide to help her it is terrifyingly hard to get the medicine for her. Panacea labs does not give away the medicine that easily.

"See this Felix!" Jackie tugs at my arm.

"What?" I am in the middle of my question when she shows me the list of diagnostic team interns, I am number three!

"I..." am speechless.

"Isn't it amazing?" Landry mutters bitterly and walks off. He is on number 7 this time.

"Forget him, I am sincerely happy for you" Jackie tells me and gives me an one armed hug. I return her gesture.

"You are number 5, not bad" I cheer her. She blushes "Yeah, I can do better though. We are almost there"

I check for Sienna's name. To my utter shock, she is at number 10.

"Alright, see you later. Aurora awaits me with the patient" Jackie pats my arm and turns to leave.

"I am here actually, Varma" Aurora arrives from behind, hands across her chest and her usual grim look.

She quietly glances at the list, sees her name at number 1. Gives no reaction and turns to Jackie.

"Congrats. You are doing good I suppose" her tone is almost warm and friendly.

"Ha! Wait till I dethrone you" Jackie retorts with a confidently raised eyebrow.

Aurora sighs "Couldn't you just gratefully accept the compliment?"

Jackie looks at her quizzically "Compliment? I'd rather have your hate than this fake friendliness"

Aurora remains expressionless but I see that her eyes show signs of pain. She is hurt. Jackie barges off without a second glance towards her.

"Hope you enjoyed the drama, Alexander" she utters.

"Aurora..." and I take a step in her direction, I don't know what comes over me but I grasp her hand.

"Why do you always have to act so tough, huh? You can be vulnerable and it is absolutely okay to be so" I plead in front of her.

She looks down at my hand in hers, a strange burden reflects in her eyes which I can't comprehend properly.

"You..." and she stops mid-sentence to peek at her right.

Sienna is standing there. She is wearing a frustrated expression and before any of us can say something, she goes back from wherever she came.

Aurora is embarrassed, she makes me leave her hand "Thanks but no thanks, Alexander" and she strides away.

"Declan Nash will be here?!" It is more of a shock than a question.

"Yes, do I have to repeat myself Rookie?" Ramsey replies curtly.

"No... no Sir" I reply with my head bowed.

The opportunity that I have been waiting for! I can get the medicine from Nash when he visits the hospital.

"Why is he visiting though?" I ask.

"He wants to sign a deal with Edenbrook but honestly speaking, I am not interested. And..." Ramsey trails off.
