"Dr. Alexander?" my patient's worried voice brings me back to my senses. The events of this morning still lurk in my head.
"Just some rest and paracetamol will do Billy. No need to be worried" I smile at my young patient who is suffering from dengue.

"Will I be fine until my important football game, Doctor" he asks.

Yeah he is a high schooler and football is his life.

"Sure Billy, you'll be okay by then" I reassure him and he looks relieved. It is the truth though, he'll definitely be okay by then.

I touch his forehead, he is burning hot! The medicine will work slowly. We don't get too many dengue cases these days. It is more widespread in Asian countries but not here.

'A healthy world' I still remember my essay that I sent for my Med School magazine. Someone had asked me then "Why not only a healthy America? You live here so you'll work for the Americans, right?"

I always hated such narrow mindedness. "I want to work for the world, not only America. It's not that America is the only nation in the world!"

They chuckled "How do you intend to help the entire world? Give free diapers to Asian kids?"

Asian kids?

"Why only Asian kids? European and American kids also need diapers"

They grinned "Asia is a poor continent. Those maggots don't even have proper food out there. And China has the World's largest population. Hnh! They don't even have education, that's why all this..."

Bloody Racist!

"Excuse me? Maggots? You seriously called Asians 'Maggots'?" I am trying to sound surprised and calm meanwhile I am actually burning red from inside. Fuck this doucebag!

I remember the rest of our conversation. After our conversation ended so did his career as the Chief editor of Med School's Magazine.

I'm glad that dick was removed. He was a bloody racist and a disgrace to the profession of medicine as well as journalism.

I had decided that very day that I'll write a book one day. Books know no borders, they belong to every person in this world. Regardless of their race, gender, cast, creed, ethnicity, language or sexuality. All these things that we differentiate and rank humans on.

This was the time when I read Dr. Ramsey's first book. He was the inspiration for my own will of book writing. A catalyst in a way.

I have to remember 'A Healthy World'.

"Doctor?" Billy looks and sounds confused.

"It's all good Billy, I'll see you in a few hours. See how your fever does by then" and with I give him a parting smile.

My salad and fried deline sausages remain untouched. I am on my third glass of orange juice and that's all that my body seems to be demanding right now. More juice.

I am looking at my empty glass when I feel a slim and petite figure standing beside me. I don't dare look up until. Whoever it is, they'll leave. Please leave.

But Sienna is in no mood to leave. She sits on the opposite side of the small, circular table of the cafeteria. I look into her deep, chocolate brown eyes and suddenly feel a lump forming in my throat.

"I am so sorry for not standing up for you this morning" she says.

I give her an 'it doesn't matters' kind of a look but she is still adamant that I listen to her.

"I had something else on my mind... I was just not there... Mentally"

And I get it. You had Wayne on your mind, love and I understand it. She shouldn't feel guilty because of me.
