The blood on my tongue makes me want to throw up but thankfully a tough voice catches my attention and distracts me momentarily from the copper-like taste of my own blood.
"Call the Cops, boy!" the old Cowboy orders the younger one. I realise that the younger man has grabbed Danny from the arm and Danny is not even trying to get out of his inhumanly strong grip.
"No! No police!" I beg the old man.
"Sonny, you are bleeding. Sawyer, call the ambulance first and then the cops" he tells the younger man, who I now know is named Sawyer.
Sawyer gives him a quick nod and swiftly pulls out his phone but I reach him right away.
"Please, he's my friend. He's just drunk and we had... a misunderstanding. Don't call the cops on him" I request him. Danny is drunk. He would've never done all this if he were in his senses. I can't let him go to jail.
"He punched the hell outta ya, man. How can you plead for him?" Sawyer asks, shocked by my behaviour.
"Please, I'll deal with him... I don't want the police involved" and hearing my earnest words, Sawyer puts back his phone.
"Dad, maybe these boys can deal with it on their own" he says.
I feel a strong and heavy hand on my shoulder. I turn to face the old man, Sawyer's father. I gulp involuntarily.
His eyes are fierce.
And then, he offers me a handkerchief "You are leaking blood everywhere". I look at the simple brown handkerchief that he is holding out for me. God! He intimidates me.
"Er Thanks" I take it from him.
"Should we call an ambulance?" he asks.
"No, I'm alright. Thank you" I answer amidst dabbing the blood off of my face but unluckily only more is flowing out of my nose. Surprisingly, I don't feel any pain right now. Which means that the nerves are not working properly. I hope this is not serious.
"Let me go, you beast!" Danny cries out.
"Leave him, please" I request Sawyer who looks at me in disbelief.
But he does as I had asked. "You are a loser and you will never have Sienna!" with that, Danny shows me the middle finger and leaves, his gait looks less intoxicated than before.
"Maybe we can drop you off to your house?" Sawyer offers sympathetically.
"Yeah, we have our car with us" adds his Father. I was honestly thinking I'd see some old fashioned rough and heavy truck... their vehicle is definitely old fashioned but not a truck. It is more like a family van. Anyways, it's not that I was going to accept the ride. I have my bike to take home and those beer crates. So, I politely decline the offer.
"How bout' ya take this?" the old man gives me a business card. 'Oakley's Ranch'. Not surprise that they own a ranch.
"Dad!" Sawyer glares at his Dad.
"Thanks er Mr. Oakley"
The old man smiles for the first time "Cliff, call me Cliff. If you ever visit our little town then visit our ranch and if you have some business..." but Sawyer gets a hold of his father "I think we should go, Dad. We have some work left in the city".
Sawyer gives me an embarrassed smile, while Cliff tips his cowboy hat as a Goodbye. I nod as well. Thankfully, the blood coming from my nose has stopped.
---
Did I mention it stopped? Famous last words. The moment I get off of my bike, I am bleeding again. Cliff's handkerchief and now my own are all soaked in blood. I need to get upstairs fast and stop this bleeding. I'll come back for the beer crates later.
