I am almost at the end of my shift when my pager comes to life and I am informed that I am needed in another ward. Why does it feels like I am the one running this Hospital and seeing all the patients?

Remembering that I am a professional with a duty towards their patients, I begin smiling (even though it is not coming from my heart) and I make my way towards the ward.

Inside are present two people. A young girl of hardly twenty three ish and a young man about her age. Her Boyfriend maybe but as soon as I get closer I see the resemblance. He is her brother.

"I see, so how are you doing Willow?" I ask after taking a look at her chart.

The girl smiles brightly "I am good doc, this is my brother Rowan. Where are your manners brother?"

Rowan immediately stands up, bows his head a bit and greets me.

"So Willow and Rowan... are both trees, right?" I ask

Rowan smiles "Yeah, our parents are quite outdoorsy types"

"I'd rather say hippies bro" Willow says

Rowan chuckles in return. I see Willow scratching her neck during this.

"How long has the itchiness been there?" I ask her, she shrugs "Been a week or so"

"We went to Mass Kenmore a few days ago..." but Willow cuts in her brother's sentence

"But the Doctor was horrendous over there!" she says with her eyes wide.

I notice that her eyes look jaundiced. I step closer and see clearly see the spider angiomas under her pale skin. These symptoms not at all look good.

"Why was the Doctor horrendous?" I enquire while still looking closely at her skin.

"Well, I said that I have a bit of chest ache and he just started examining my boobs. it was not...ha ha really comfortable" she replies nervously.

"Did he not give you any medicines?" I ask again, through the corner of my eye I spot a nervous look on Rowan's face.

Could these kids be lying?

"Was it due to the flu or something?" I ask with a raised eyebrow.

"Yeah, yeah it was. he said so too!" Rowan almost jumps up from his seat.

"So the medicines, what did he prescribe?" Now is the time where I can spot their lie.

"He uh... gave her some antibiotics" Rowan replies nervously.

"You don't give antibiotics for a viral infection such as flu" I coolly reply.

Their faces have gone pale. They certainly were hoping that I'll not catch their lie. The look in my eye is clear. I want the truth.

"You have Hepatitis C my dear" I say while looking sympathetically towards her.

"And you guys don't have to lie anymore" I add.

Both of their faces fall and they exchange worried and ashamed glances at each other.

"The treatment will cure her entirely, we can start from tomorrow" I offer.

"We... we know but the treatment is very expensive. We cannot afford it" says Willow disappointedly.

They don't have an insurance. It is clear now. That's why the Doctors at Mass Kenmore denied to treat her.

"I see that you probably don't have an insurance" I say and they nod.
