Later in the evening, I'm seated in my study(the corner of my room) preparing notes of today's study. A quarter portion of the cream wall is painted black(like a blackboard because as a child I dreamt of becoming a teacher but now it seems quite useful). I behave like I'm a teacher and create imaginary students, this is my way of studying. I drew a diagram on the black surface, memorizing its depth, and turn to face my imaginary students. But this time it's not my imagination but a living being on my window sill.
"Can I come in ma'am?" He ridicules, a strange feeling of embarrassment stirs within me.
He lazily walks to my side, pulling a chair, and plops into it. His blue eyes motion me to continue, I hesitate at first but I gather courage and begin my special study again.
He nods his head here and there giving me the assurance that he is concentrating which is quite surprising. 'Stop judging a book by its cover' I always tend to do. We resided in completing our assignments when mom calls me for dinner.
Excusing myself, I head downstairs quickly to find mom and dad seated for dinner.
"Mom, dad can I eat in my room today?" They exchange looks, "I have a lot of homework."
"Okay honey, but don't stay too long." Dad allows.
I make sure I carried extra food for my unusual guest, he inhales deeply by the smell of home food, a warm smile dancing on his lips. He gulps the food so quickly making me give my own portion too.
"So why were you late?" I finally ask.
"I had practice." He shrugs
"You can't just leave me stranded in that deserted park!"
"Okay, sorry! I tend to forget things."
"Next time this shouldn't happen."
"Fine."
After our light dinner and heavy homework, we wind up for the night. When I realize he hasn't asked about Hannah the whole hour, he asks as though he read my mind,"Has she text back?"
"No," I answer dryly.
"So you still won't help me?"
I action a no.
"Can't you just help me, in basic stuff?"
I don't answer.
"I know how over-protected are you about her but don't make me take things in my hand."His eyes darken.
His words process in my brain over and over again.
"Will you?" Luke digs his fingers into my arm.
"I'm sorry Luke, but I can't. She is my only friend and I can't lose her."He loosens his grip on me as my eyes moisten.
He turns on his heels to leave but stops beside my lampstand and stares at the photo frame once again. Then he picks up my BIBLE and leaves with a smirk curving his lips.
