I run, run, run hopefully to find Luke. The park screamed loneliness, making it easier for me to run. I reach the bench to find him staring at no-where. He doesn't seem disturbed by my presence as I gently sit down beside him.
I breathe, letting go of the tiredness simultaneously preparing myself to let go of words I have been holding up.
"I'm sorry," I whisper.
"She chose him."He should have spat those words but he whispered. His voice clothed in grief.
I shift closer to his side relieved that he is not mad. I really didn't know how to console someone on matters like this. Me being the least experienced and throwing those same dialogues from the movies we watched will bug him.
I sigh letting exhaustion out through my nostrils.
He stands on his feet and walks past me his lips zipped in silence. He walks to the bridge over a fake stream of water and stands there resting his arms on the grill supporting his leaning frame.
Maybe he needed space.
I wanted to leave but I just couldn't. He is my friend and I owe him so much. This day was indeed a roller coaster ride but I need to stand by him till the end of time. Without my knowledge, I'm bonded to him and now I could feel it is difficult to let go of those strings. Before I could even realize my feet carried me to his side.
"Sometimes we don't get what we want." I blurt, immediately regretting it.
Why should I start with such stupid words?
"GOD's plan is best than what our heart desires." I would have told this a thousand times, I just hope these words sink into him.
My words hung in the soft breeze. We make no eye contact, we are not even facing each other. It's as though I'm talking to myself, I could only feel his presence but his silence is killing me.
"Your love for her was true but I don't know what made her fall for him."
"I believe if you love someone too much it will be taken away from you. We must always Love GOD the most, placing him in our priority always. He deserves that place more than our loved one and I don't think there is anyone more worthy than him. A relationship does not prosper if GOD is not present."
"You know what was wrong..........you did everything just to impress her," I spoke the words that were buried in my heart.
"Especially of becoming a Christian." I continued, my heart stinging.
"Our GOD is not a genie Luke, that he should grant everything you want. He is our FATHER and a father knows what a child needs. He loves you, he listens to you, granted your prayers but you consider him some kind of a path that leads you to your destination."
"You think that it was because your love for Hannah changed you right? NO, it's because of his love for you that you are saved."
"All I'm trying to tell you is to worship him the way he wants you to, not because to attract somebody but to attach yourself to him." I breathe, surprised that I had such words inside me.
"Repent Luke, you don't have much time, life is short." I could feel blue eyes on me.
"In terms of forgiveness, He is the Best GOD of mercy. You experience his love in times of forgiveness."
When I turned to face him, I couldn't help but wonder at the priceless expression on Luke's face. He sobbed bitterly when our eyes met, his face scrunched in pain as tears ran down like a flood. I've never seen anyone cry so bitterly as him.
I opened my arms which he accepts freely closing the gap with an embrace. His warm arms wrap my body as he snuggles into my neck, a low sob escapes from his lips. I rub his back, reassuring him. I couldn't help but cry myself.
"Thank you, Judi."He utters under the embrace, bringing a smile on my tear-stained cheeks.
"Can I pray for you?"
He replies by letting go of the embrace and holding my hands.
"FATHER, I come before you today to place your hands on your son Luke. He has been misdirected from your presence LORD, and he chose to come back to you. Forgive your child LORD, touch him, help him to feel your amazing mercy, JESUS you are the prince of peace, touch him that he might experience your peace that we all long for. Hope this act of repentance was true from his heart and hope he has accepted you as his LORD and Savior, the redeemer of our soul. I ask this in your most powerful name, Amen."
When I opened my eyes, Luke was still crying. So I reached forward and wiped his tears," GOD will forgive you."
A weak smile curved at the corners of his lips.
He hugged me once again but this time it was more warm and comfortable.
"Do you remember the parable of the lost sheep?" I ask.
He sniggered.
"So don't you think heaven will be rejoicing today because of you?" I lifted my head to observe his reaction.
"Yeah." He nodded joyfully.
"Listen, I want you to go home, to your parents spend time with them. If you can, introduce them to our LORD." Luke tittered by my words.
"Sure."
"Thank you, Judi, thank you so much."His face suddenly turned sincere.
"Your welcome." I snuggled into his chest.
"I love you." He continues, his words are so genuine. Even though he meant in a friendly way but I strangely longed in the other way.
"I love you too," I answer, breathing into his intoxicating smell.
