I reach my parent's master room after school, I tiptoe through the room even though I know there is no one in the house. After a couple of minutes of searching through the various closets, cupboards, and drawers I finally find the treasure I've been searching for. I pick it up and raise THE BIBLE to my eye level and as soon as the afternoon sun hits its surface; it shines even though it was of a dark fabric.
"Honey! we are home." Dad shouts from downstairs, I quickly slip out before mom finds out that I stole her BIBLE. I sit on my desk, the usual spot to study the world's best-selling book, the greatest ancient text,' THE BIBLE'.I feel so proud to hold it between my palms, its lost touch renewing me. The clock struck six breaking my spell of wonder, unconsciously I hear the wall creak making me place my BIBLE in the drawers of the lampstand and I focus on the exact source of the sound.
Luke jumps into my room and gently places his backpack on the chair. He turns to face the window and inhales shutting his eyes then he does the craziest thing, "Best day ever!!! Woah ooh!." He exclaims on top of his voice. I ran quickly towards him, "Shhh! My parents are right under us!" I hiss, why am I whispering?. He childishly throws his palms to his mouth and shakes his head. I hear footsteps approaching us so I quickly push him to the bathroom and hide his bag behind the curtain.
The door swings open revealing my suspicious parents, "Who was that?" The chorus, "I heard it too.....but from...outside."I fumble for words, they scan the room but Dad studies me strangely and they return downstairs still not satisfied. I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding, opening the bathroom door I catch Luke dancing like I don't know what. He held the shampoo like a microphone as he air sang a song I couldn't catch. Once he realized my presence he awkwardly placed the bottle on the slab, and weakly smiled at me.
"Congrats!"I say, Just to change the topic. "Thanks" He replies scratching his neck.
"I'm sorry." He utters after a while.
"My parents are too protective."
"So let's begin the BIBLE studies?"
"Sure."
"I earned a good name today, right?"He asks out of the blue, once we had finished with our scripture studies.
I nod.
"Did she get impressed?"
I thought for a while and replied, "She asked me few questions as I didn't mention to her that I was tutoring you."
"Then?"
"She never asked about you."
There was surprisingly no homework today so he packed to leave early. He pulls a chocolate bar out of his backpack and offers to me."Here a token of appreciation. It wouldn't be possible without you." He grins warming my heart.
"It wasn't me, it was our JESUS." I smile the widest smile.
"But still it was your prayers."
I accept the gift defeated by my greatest weakness, CHOCOLATES!
