My alarm rings in liveliness, my eyes spun open by the annoying sound. I shut it off pushing my light bed sheet away, the light fabric warmed by the early morning rays. I stare up at the ceiling as I gather the knowledge as to what day it is? My brain wakes up after five seconds, I position myself to pray and thank GOD for this day closing my eyes concentrating on deeper prayer. Then it hits me, opening my eyes in a jolt my head swiftly turns to confirm the conscious thought with my eyes on the calendar. How can I forget? The only thought running in my mind for the past two weeks!
I take a quick shower and wear a pale green dress stretching down to my ankles and my arms. I love this dress! it's so comfortable and soft. I braid my hair to the side and wound my wrist with a watch that Hannah had gifted me on my previous birthday. I look at myself in the mirror satisfied with my look I jog out of the house.
I munch a healthy role as I walk down on the concrete floor, my feet colliding on the cold pavement. Mr. Dan waters his garden humming a good tune, he offers a smile as I pass by. A tiny bird tweets melodiously on a maple branch. A couple of jogs pass me their ears plugged with music.
A quick glance at my watch informs me that I'm awfully late. I jog forward as fast as my sandal-ed feet could carry me. My books slam my back as my foot stamps the ground. I reach the school gates heaving, my watch sparing me five minutes. My gaze lands on a pink beautiful dress, brown curly locks which sit impatiently on her shoulders. I push myself forward my arms opening wide embracing her fragile body," Happy Birthday Hannah!" I squeal.
She gasps loudly by this sudden impact and calms down realizing it's me. She hugs me back tightly, filling my heart. I pull out a glittery wrapped box, excitement giving way.
Her eyes go wide, she hugs me again, "Thank you, Judi! Your the best friend I could ever get."I melt her words.
"Can I open it?" Curiosity surges her.
"Sure." I hope she likes it.
She digs into the box like a child on Christmas. Her eyes flicker as she pulls out a gold chain with a small green pendant. The green matching her eyes, I know thats her favorite color.
She shrieks as the bell goes off.
Ms. May doesn't seem to appear to class making the class a market. Hannah pulls out the pendant again, she stares at it quietly.
"Han......"
"Hi, Han and Judi." Ethan interrupts me.
"Hi, Ethan." We greet back.
"What's up with you guys......."His eyes catch the shiny pendant on Hannah's hands.
"Hey, that's a nice-looking pendant." He comments.
"Judi gave me on my bir...." She stops, her eyes flicker towards me a nervous expression runs around her.
Why she so nervous? She hung her head down her fingers fidget with her pendant.
Ethan looks suspiciously between us," Is today your birthday Hannah?"
Hannah doesn't seem to respond. I nod slowly bringing a wide smile on his face.
"Happy Birthday Hannah!"He exclaims lending his hand forward.
"Thank you, Ethan." She finally lifts her head.
"Do you mind..........." He asks
She nods placing her hair to one side as he locks the chain to her neck.
My eyes sweep across the class unable to spot 'HIM'. Where is he? As long as I know he won't miss it for the world. Something doesn't seem right, is he in trouble AGAIN!
