As a child every new year I would flip through the calendar and grow excited when my birthday was on weekdays. Weekdays mean school and chocolate distribution to the class.
When the clock struck twelve, the family would surprise me with my favorite cake and age-appropriate candles, and me being the only child would receive the best. I love hunting for my presents, especially if Dad hides them.
Once Dad hides it in the garden without Mom's knowledge. Next thing I knew Mom was watering the garden, freaking my Dad out. Their priceless expression let me in tons of laughter in the early hours of the day.
"What are you smiling at?" A husky voice grunted beside me.
"Nothing." I shake my head.
"Are you LOVE, Sweetheart?" Luke said wriggling his eyebrows.
"No!" I yell. "I'm in love with my parents," I add.
He simply rolled his eyes.
"Tell me something Judi, I'm getting bored in here."He frowns stabbing his noodles.
Actually very bored. Hannah and Ethan are out of sight for the past five days possibly preparing for the project. We are much ahead of the project than the others. Thanks, Luke, I wonder from whom he stole the blueprint.
I tell him the incident of my Dad hiding my present in the garden. He laughs loudly as if witnessing the event.
" What plans for Hannah's birthday?"
"Hmm, I planned so many things but I'm just not satisfied with any." He admits.
I nod agreeing with him.
" What do you do on her birthday?"
" I usually bake a cake and surprise her with a gift."
"I've planned birthdays for so many people but this time it's just not happening." He shrugs.
"I know how it feels." I sigh
" You know?" He asks curiously.
"Yeah, those movies............kind of helped." I trail.
He grins softly.
"Do you wanna come home?" Luke offers
" Your home?" He shoots that what- do-you- mean look.
"I mean is it fine?" I ask nervously.
"Sure, we can watch movies together, eat anything you like and I can drop you home." He sounded so easy.
I hesitantly nod making his lips curve at the corners.
