-Mari-

I came home that night happy. Liam is perfect. I walked into the house and lightly closed the door heading up to my room. I walked into the room and found Lucy crying the phone laying next to her. "Lucy what happened?" I sat down next to her and she laid her head in my lap while i played with her hair. "My mom just called." Just four words but I already knew what was happening. I played with her hair and tried relaxing her. "Mar she wants to visit." Ouch now suddenly her mom begins to care? Lucy's mom never actually cared about her. Trust me Lucy and I have been friends since I first moved to California. I met her in the first day of second grade. It was her 8th birthday and she brought cookies. They had no idea I was coming so her mom made enough for everyone but me. Lucy quietly walked her little auburn self towards me with the biggest smile and handed me half of hers. "Your name is funny it sounds like Mars, my favorite planet." Lucy said her little dimples poked out along with her bright smile. She sat next to me and ate her cookie with me. "Your hair is the color of mars but looks like the ocean." And that is how Lucy and I became best friends. Ever since then we've been inseparable. Ever since that day I noticed how her mom really wasn't that nice to her. The first time I went to Lucy's house her mom screamed and slapped her. The second time she came to mine we had our first sleepover and Lucy's mom told my mom she can keep Lucy if she wanted cause she was no use to her. Lucy loved her mom though. She still does. Her mom just broke her though. By the time Lucy and I turned 9. She was diagnosed depressed and her mom only made it worse. Now she wants to visit? This isn't okay. Yet it'll happen. Lucy sits up and asked me

how my date was. I just smiled. "Cmon Lucy it's time for our date." I say pulling her up. "I'm not even dressed." I look at her questionably. She had sweats on and a red shirt. I ripped off my leggings and cardigan and threw on some sweats and my glasses then told her to cmon and we left our phones behind. We had our money and each others company. We went walking around to random places. We stopped into a gas station and bought arizona teas and rice krispy treats. Our favorites. Then we went down a random alleyway and at the end of they alley was sand leading towards a beach. Perfect I thought. I grabbed Lucy's hand and we ran onto the beach and face planted into the sand. We turned onto our backs and stared at the stars. "That looks like a taco." Lucy randomly blurts. "That one looks like a dragon." I say going along with her. We both laugh and it seems Lucy begins to feel a little better. We get up and dance around on the sand. Spinning in circles making ourselves dizzy then we both fall over laughing harder than ever. There's the Lucy everyone knows and loves. My best friend. My better half. We walked home hand in hand happily. Smiling more than ever. I hope Lucy stays this way. Her mom can't ruin it now. Even when she does visit. "Oh and James is coming too." Lucy says with a pause. WHAT?!
