From a long distance, Ralts occasionally threw in some moves to disturb Ariados while Zangoose stood in front with Honedge in its hands, prepared to intercept anything would fly towards their way. Lyon was still being weirded out by Honedege chilling in Zangoose's hands like that was nothing new but he held it in. The most important thing right now was to win this uphill battle. Lyon observed and kept thinking if there was any way to make the winning chance higher.
If you thought Zangoose just stood and was not doing anything then you're wrong. Lyon had instructed Zangoose to take the chance when Ariados was busy fighting Sylveon to repeatedly used Sword Dance and Hone Claws as many as possible. Well, now it should be called Hone Sword though.
Zangoose held Honedge upwards in front of his face, closed its eye and meditated. Multiple sapphire glowing swords circled Zangoose and crossed together above its head. When they disappeared, both Honedge and Zangoose started glowing blue. This was how Zangoose came up to combine Sword Dance and Hone Claws to be used the same time, much different from when they were used respectively. Through this combined move of Zangoose, Lyon understood that one could be interpreted and performed in various ways by the same or different Pokémons. So now he wouldn't be surprised when seeing the way Zangoose used the move was different from how it did usually.
Ralts kept throwing Confusion, Psyshock, Psychic and Future Sight every time Ariados left an opening and used Growl, Charm, Lucky Chant, Disable, Calm Mind in the remaining time to make the battle even harder for Ariados to fight while making sure to stand a quite distance away. One could see Ralts repeatedly changed its action.
When using Growl, Ralts opened its mouth, let out a loud, piercing cry and released white shockwaves towards the opponent. This would lower the target's Attack stat. When Ralts used Charm, it made a cute face and sent waves of pink hearts to the enemy, which sharply reduced Ariados's Attack power. Or when Ralts used Lucky Chant, it pointed the stick upward and recited a spell towards the sky. The whole body of Ralts started to glow golden, shining light from above landed on the opponent and disappeared into its body. This would prevent Ariados from landing critical hits.
And every time Sylveon in a dire situation of being hit, Ralts used Disable to stop Ariados from attacking. Ralts and later Ariados both briefly became outlined in light blue. Ariados was motionless for a moment and Sylveon took this chance to hit Ariados with another move. Or when Ralts used Confusion and Psychic, it pointed the stick towards the opponent and its whole body started to glow light blue and caused the target to become the same. Ralts then controlled Ariados to jump right in Sylveon's moves, which should have been missed or rammed Ariados hard on the ground. Sometimes Ariados suddenly was blown up by a powerful blast of psychic energy which was calculated when Ralts released Future Sight. Or Ralts opened its mouth and sent blue odd psychic waves to Ariados. Being hit by Psyshock made it shriek loudly. In the remaining time, Ralts used Calm Mind, closed its eyes, focused its mind and calmed its spirit. Its whole body glowed colorfully, boosting its Special Attack and Special Defense stats.
The plan totally worked. Sylveon clearly had an easier time to fight against Ariados while Ariados seemed... Yeah, pretty p!ssed off. Being pestered non-stop, Ariados couldn't concentrate on fighting and finally snapped. It clearly didn't care how many moves Sylveon using to hit its body with anymore, turned around to face the two annoying pesterers, opened its mouth and started shooting streams of needles towards them from a white glowing ball formed in front of its mouth.
Lyon had already predicted that coming and immediately ordered Zangoose.
- Fury Swipes. Parry those needles.
Zangoose raised its hand and Honedge started glowing white. Then Zangoose parried all the needles flying towards them from Ariados's Pin Missile by moving Honedge in a majestic way. Lyon kept hearing clanging sound and saw countless sparks but none of them was able to pass by. D@mn! That was too cool. Lyon knew that it's him who told them to learn sword arts but this was beyond learning no matter how he'd seen it. Though it's still a bit too hard for Zangoose. The proof was Lyon could hear its heavy breathing. But still, good job, white knight Zangoose!
Ariados saw its attempt to attack failed and angrily screamed. Urgh, what a horrid sound! Shut the f#ck up!!! That was when a light blue orb crashed into its body and exploded. Sylveon took the opportunity and used Stored Power to shut it up. Ooh. Nice! Lyon couldn't help but give Sylveon a thumbs up in his mind.
The two of them then again charged headlong at each other. Everything had worked so far but Lyon couldn't stop his anxiety. Because he clearly saw his three Pokémons were all tired from fighting too long and this son of b!tch had way too much stamina. At this rate, they were going to lose. But even if he racked his brain, a miracle wouldn't just pop up.
That was when a blinding white radiance lit up the cave. Lyon startled a bit and instantly turned to the source of light. He could barely see a silhouette was changing its form in the middle.
- This is...
Lyon squinted with the intention of recognizing the silhouette. And when he finally saw the outline, its familiar form made him shiver from such a joyful thought. Was Ralts going to evolve?
Seeing that, even Ariados understood this battle shouldn't be dragged out any longer or else the tables would have turned against it. Immediately, Ariados shot out a yellow-orange beam from its mouth at Ralts. Seeing Ariados released Hyper Beam, Lyon freaked out and screamed at the top of his lungs.
- Zangoose, protect Ralts.
Finally, a glimmer of hope appeared. Lyon wouldn't allow it to die or they're all doomed. Zangoose understood this was the important turning point of the battle. It immediately stationed itself in front of Ralts and used its two hands to raise Honedge up. Its whole body glowed light blue and a turquoise barrier formed by multiples hexagons appeared. Zangoose raised Honedge above its head. One could see Honedge glowed bluish-silver with white sparks surrounding it.
Hyper Beam quickly collided with Protect. The turquoise barrier was wavering, held on for a moment before completely shattered. Hyper Beam pierced through and shot towards the target. Immediately, Zangoose smashed Honedge down onto the yellow-orange beam. Zangoose used Crush Claw in the final attempt to stop Hyper Beam. The impact was so strong that made a thunderous explosion and threw Zangoose backward high up in the air over Ralts. Zangoose groaned and fainted immediately. But at least, it succeeded in preventing Ariados from intervening in Ralts's evolving.
Ariados still prepared to attack again even though his previous attempt had already failed. But there's no way Sylveon let it happen. Immediately, Sylveon used Glitzy Glow, bombarded the enemy with telekinetic force. A wondrous wall of light was put up to weaken the power of Ariados's special moves.
Suffered from the sudden attack, Ariados then retaliated immediately with Sludge Bomb. It released a purple stream of sludge from its mouth at Sylveon. Unfortunately, in order to stop Ariados earlier, Sylveon now was standing too close and couldn't dodge the coming strike. Sylveon got a direct hit and groaned painfully before completely fainted.
Ariados turned its body around to face Ralts and again attempted to interrupt Ralts's evolving. But it was already too late. The light started to dim down. And Ralts, now Kirlia came into view. Kirlia was a bipedal, humanoid Pokémon that appeared to be wearing a tutu. Most of its body was white, and there were three ruffles on each hip. Beneath the ruffles, it had skinny green legs with long, pointed feet. Its arms were also thin with two digits each. It had green hair that covered most of its face and reached its shoulders on either side, resembling two ponytails. Large, red eyes were visible on either side of the hair that covered its face. On each side of its head should have been a flat, red horn that resembled a hairpin. Unfortunately, it had been removed and wouldn't regrow when Ralts evolved into Kirlia.
After pulling Sylveon, Zangoose, and Honedge away from the battlefield, Lyon held his breath to observe the last scene of this big battle between the only two now standing in the middle of the cave. He knew that whether he lived or not depended on the outcome of this battle. He was so frustrated throughout the battle because there was almost nothing he could do to help. Lyon had thought he got a bit strong but reality splashed onto his face. He felt so useless, worthless, helpless, powerless when all he could do was stupidly standing to look at his Pokémons suffering. And now again, Lyon stood in the corner, prayed that Kirlia would win against Ariados.
