Ariados was the first to move. It probably became impatient from enemies after enemies popping up. Before the battle, Lyon had instructed those Pokémons to light up the cave by creating plants and fire. He hadn't wanted to have a brawl in the dark which would be a disadvantaged situation for them. Now Lyon wanted to praise the him from back then. Because of his wise decision, Lyon was able to notice Ariados's shadow on the ground extended past Kirlia. This should be impossible because shadow wouldn't move this fast. There was only one explanation. Ariados was using one of those Ghost-type Shadow Sneak.
Was this just a coincidence when it used particular super-effective moves against respective Pokémons? Lyon knew this Ariados probably had a lot of battle experiences but to this extent... The problem was Kirlia didn't seem to notice that. Lyon had to give a warning immediately.
- Dodge right now!!!
Heard what he said, Kirlia executed my order without any hesitations. Its body glowed multicolored and became outlined in light blue. The space around Kirlia seemed to be distorted and it disappeared. Seconds later, it reappeared several feet away. That was also when Ariados's shadow rose up from the ground and pounced on the place Kirlia standing a second ago. Kirlia barely avoided Ariados's Shadow Sneak by using Teleport. If Lyon hadn't warned Kirlia, it would have been hit by now.
But Lyon hadn't been able to feel content yet, Ariados immediately released the move Night Shade at Kirlia as it had already expected Kirlia to avoid its move earlier. Its eyes glowed dark red and a mirage of a transparent Ariados enlarging appeared. Kirlia was stained with dark red energy and started groaning. Night Shade was a Ghost-type move so it would be super-effective against Kirlia. It inflicted damage equal to the user's level, which should be super high.
But that wasn't enough to defeat Kirlia. It immediately counterattacked with Hypnosis. Kirlia's irises glowed blue and released hypnotic energy waves at Ariados. Then, Ariados's eyes also glowed blue. Lyon perceived that Kirlia wanted to use the combo Hypnosis-Dream Eater. Dream Eater worked only on sleeping Pokémon. It absorbed half the damage and caused to heal the user. This way Kirlia would be able to hang on a little longer.
Ariados wobbled a bit then immediately awoke. Lyon was surprised at the scene unfolding in front of him and realized Ariados's ability was Insomnia. Sh!t!!! Earlier in the group battle, Lyon had ordered those Pokémons to use Sleep Powder as an attempt to put it to sleep. But Ariados immediately avoided them. It probably became so aware of Vivillon's Powder after being suffered a lot. And as a result, Lyon didn't figure out its ability and just assumed it was Swarm. All of that led to the present. Pokémon had Insomnia ability wouldn't be put to sleep. So Kirlia's plan failed.
- It has Insomnia. Hypnosis won't work!
Heard Lyon's warning, Kirlia instantly used another move. Its whole body glowed light blue and all the energy rushed forwards, formed a light blue orb in front. Kirlia released all that stored energy at Ariados. At the same time, Ariados's body became surrounded in an invisible energy. A bright flash of yellow light appeared in front of its face and an orb of light purple energy with spiraling light yellow streaks throughout appeared around its body. Then, it charged at Kirlia with full force.
Stored Power's base power was a bit low but what made it the most suitable move to use right now was because its final output could increase. The more the user's stats were raised, the greater the damage. Because Kirlia had used Calm Mind a lot, now its Special Attack and Special Defense stats were at their maximum stage which made it became the most powerful move Kirlia could execute at the moment.
Ariados's Giga Impact collided with Stored Power which caused a big explosion with a loud noise and stirred up clouds of dust. But unfortunately, that wasn't enough to knock Ariados out. It was stopped for a moment before continuing to charge at the opponent. Seeing Kirlia was about to be defeated, Lyon was surprisingly calm because he already expected this would happen. He had analyzed the situation and came up with a conclusion that a one in a million chance they could defeat Ariados. And this chance would only appear if some miracles happened.
Ariados got one hell of stamina. So this entire time, Lyon was desperately looking for a miracle. He had thought he'd definitely kicked the bucket while commanding the group battle but Sylveon, Zangoose, and Ralts had shown up. But that still wasn't enough, he needed a breakthrough. When Ralts evolved into Kirlia, that was the final piece of the puzzle he wanted. Ariados might be powerful but after a series of battles, it was not in its top form anymore. There's no way he would let this chance slip by.
- Destiny Bond.
Kirlia's and later Ariados's body glowed in purple and those ominous energies crept into their bodies. Right after that, Ariados slammed into Kirlia. Lyon could hear its cry in pain before fainting. Kirlia's body was blown in the air due to the impact and later hit on the ground. Purple energy was oozing out of its body and evaporated. Then Ariados became surrounded by an ominous purple aura and instantly fainted.
Lyon had experimented on how Destiny Bond worked when he had been training Ralts. And he had reached a conclusion. Destiny Bond works when the user's strength is slightly lower than the target's strength at worst. It will fail if the user's strength is too low. This made sense since Lyon couldn't imagine how a newborn Wynaut used Destiny Bond against a grownup Arceus. Yup, unrealistic!
But that was the case both Pokémons were in their top forms. What if the user whose strength was much lower used Destiny Bond against the opponent but the user was in its top form while the target in its worst? If they fight normally, the target would most likely emerge as the winner. Because no matter how exhausted it was, it was still the stronger one. But when using Destiny Bond, the outcome would become both of them fainted.
In the end, it's still a bet because he didn't know for sure if Ariados was exhausted enough or Kirlia's strength was high enough. Lyon was a bit worried but determined to execute this plan because this was his best shot. When Ariados fainted, he felt like the weight of the world had been lifted off of his shoulders.
But this wasn't the time to rejoice. There's something he must have finished. Lyon then started walking towards Ariados.
He had resolved to kill when the time came. Ariados was not a friendly Pokémon. It's a cannibal. And usually, a cannibal won't be welcomed by any race. No matter they're human, animal or Pokémon. Especially when you became its enemy, you wouldn't want to be preyed on constantly.
Now Lyon was the only one left conscious. He had to take the matter into his own hands. Standing in front of Ariados, Lyon pulled out a revolver. When he'd seen Ralts evolved into Kirlia and decided the plan, Lyon had secretly been searching for his bag.
He had completely forgotten he possessed two revolvers. When Lyon got these from those two pink men, he had condemned these two as useless. Why would he need them when he had his Pokémons? Now he couldn't help but feel fortunate that he hadn't thrown these out.
The last time his ears had been ringing so bad he'd needed to asked Ralts to perform Heal Pulse on him. So now Lyon plugged his ears for his own safety. He had made plugs and eye blinders for when he trained his Pokémons to fight without using their senses. This was only a plan and he only made them in advance. He'd never thought his first time using these plugs would be like this.
Lyon pointed the revolver at Ariados's head and mustered all his strength to pull the trigger. A hole appeared on Ariados's head and purple hemolymph started gushing out. Lyon felt nauseous but still held it in and started checking if Ariados was really dead. Well, just in case. After he confirmed, Lyon sat down at a corner and rested. These long battles had exhausted him. And before he knew it, Lyon had slept soundly like he'd never slept before.
