This blab's title has nothing to do with the content of this blab. I'm just listening to that song while pouring out all these thoughts—
Alam mo ba yung The Prodigal Son?
I believe it's a famous story from the bible (because I surprisingly know it which means it must be that popular) and I'm assuming you've heard of it.
“Mahal kita, pero tama na.”
No, hindi yan galing sa The Prodigal Son. And if you know that story, the line is quite contradicting from it. I don't make sense. But you're still reading.
I'm deeply moved, my friend.
So, pinag-aralan namin yung The Prodigal Son sa literature. Isa siyang parable, or stories from the bible that have a moral lesson.
Ano ba moral lesson ng The Prodigal Son?
Magsusugal? Magpapatayo ng beer house?
Sabi nga nila Dean, #TeamFreeWill. Chuck and Amara be damned.
Sino ako para manghusga? (there goes my off topic and completely irrelevant blab in the middle of a blab. . .)
To cut it short, the prodigal son went back home and his father welcomed him. Even had the audacity to prepare a feast for his prodigal son's coming home. His older son isn't pleased (and it's a thrilling part sana kung story 'to tapos magiging antagonist yung kuya niya) but the story ended na sinasabi nung papa nila sa kuya niya na kailangan magsaya dahil nabuhay ulit ang kapatid niya.
Technically, the moral lesson is God will accept you if you're willing to change. No matter how horrible you have lived your life.
Now, fast forward to sometime last week. I watched Alone/Together. And the aforementioned hugot line is from that movie.
“Mahal kita, pero tama na.”
Nabanggit ko lang kasi ang lakas.
(here comes the spoiler. . . at this point, you should be used to it.)
It was a tragic story of a girl with big dreams and magnificent future, heading to her goals with a speed of lightning. Then she crashed, burned people along the way and killed her own light.
It shows a lot things. I wrote down a few lines that struck me the most:
“Nakakatakot pala pag nasa harap mo na.”
Sobra.
Wala.
At that point, alam kong alam niya na wala siyang kawala.
Buhay muna, duh.
“I am a child but why do I feel so old?”
“And whose fault is that?”
“Mine, because I thought you're worth it.”Things got heavy and dark and she naturally grabbed the hand that offered help in the situation that her skills and her knowledge couldn't find a way to escape.
Five years later, her grip to that hand is starting to loosen. Katulad nang naniniwala ako na we'll all go back to what we truly love, she's going back to who she is truly is.
A girl with big dreams that a four-walled office couldn't contain.
Imagine kung gaano nakaka-suffocate 'yon. She probably felt like she's gasping for air. Like she's dying.
I am dying with her.
Sa aspetong 'to, magkaiba ang Alone/Together at ang The Prodigal Son. The main characters both made a decision, but the former is cornered while the latter freely choose to live that way.
But they both have one remarkable thing in common, though. They both choose to go back.
The prodigal son swallowed his pride and came back home to his father.
The girl in Alone/Together gathered enough courage to go back to who she was. To what she love. Back then, she was paralyzed out of fear so she didn't do anything. Now, she chooses to overcome her own fear and went back home.
The struggle to reach that decision is real. Mahirap bumalik. Mahirap magpakababa. Mahirap tanggapin na mali ka.
We all know that.
I hope you will always find the courage to go back.
After all, to dust we came from and to dust we shall return.
