It came out fast.
Fast as lightning and shocking as thunder, shaking my world as I see everything I've ever worked hard for, crumbling before my very eyes.
"We lost," my parents said, looking at the empty room that once held our office.
I kept mum. Picking up the pieces all by myself, trying to build the fortress inside of me before tears can flow endlessly.
Sighing, I turned around. "Maybe, even heaven forbid me to win."
A hand held my wrist. "You didn't lose. You just gotta find a different place to build your empire."
Maybe. Just maybe, though.
"Hindi namin kaya."
I looked at my mother, then at my father. They looked so tired, helpless and hopeless.
I bit my lip, and take a deep breath before uttering the words I know I'll be regretting someday.
"Okay lang. Kahit saan naman po, tatanggapin ko."
Smile. I pushed myself to smile at them, and after a few dragging minutes, they returned the smile.
I take one last look at the place that's supposed to be the stepping stone of my future.
Hindi nila kaya, I reminded myself, at hindi lang ikaw ang anak nila.
My mother took my hand. "Uwi na tayo."
