So, although it's not fall, and Yurio does not receive a cat bouquet I think this works with today's chaapter! Credits to the Wikipedia Chokuto page for it's description! Enjoy!
Yurio's POV 1st Person Omniscient
As I dash out the door of Victor and Yuri's apartment dragging Otabek by the wrist, I feel slightly guilty, maybe I shouldn't have called Victor old, after all Yuri might have to spend half an hour getting him off the floor now. Oh well, at least Otabek and I are free. "Where do you want to go?" I ask him as we skid to a stop outside the building.
"Um, I don't know anything about Hasetsu, I know you said sightseeing was lame, but-" He starts, I cut him off mid-sentence,
"I only said that to get Victor off our backs, come on, I'll show you around. I've been here a lot visiting! First the ninja house!" I exclaim, and take off, leading Otabek by the hand to the Japanese castle. Hopefully he can read Japanese better than I can though, or else we might be royally screwed.
Otabek's POV 1st Person, Omniscient
Yurio, er, Yuri runs off to the ninja house, and I follow in his wake, he sure seems excited about all of this. I was actually hoping he'd suggest us going off by ourselves, it's easier to be myself when we're alone. It'll also be easier to try to interpret how I feel if we don't have any distractions. Earlier Yuri told me he'd liked the mug I got him, and I'm so glad he did. The fact is, while it was an honest mistake, me getting on the wrong flight and coming here to Hasetsu instead of Saint Petersburg, the whole reason I was going to Saint Petersburg was for Yurio-i. Yuri. My coach is retiring, but she didn't recommend Yakov as a replacement, she said that Celestino was better, and she'd arrange for me to be transferred to him. But I asked that I be switched to Russia instead. She was confused, but she did it, and I'm so grateful for that. I had gotten that mug as a birthday gift for Yurio- dammit Yuri, and happened to have it on me when I came here. I'd had it specially made and everything. As far as I can tell he hates everything, and I feel that him accepting my gift is definitely a step in the right direction. I've never really had a friend before, and I'm not sure how to act and feel. As far as Yurio, no YURI, goes I think he's open to me. I just wish I could get his fucking name right. The nickname Yurio he goes by most of the time is an inside joke between him and his guardians, I say referring to Victor and Yuri. I don't want to just intrude on their thing, but I want something of my own to call him. At least, he seemingly hates the name Yurio, I wonder if he hates all nicknames? I've slipped up and come close to calling him the pet name before, but always managed to catch myself in time, it's difficult. I want... something, and don't know how I would go about getting it. And I'm honestly not even sure I want what I think I do. This is my first friendship after all, I'm not exactly a billboard for companionship. So how should I know?
"We're here!" Yuri says triumphantly bringing me out of my reverie. We climb the stairs, pay the entrance fee, and are free to do as we please. Immediately Yuri walks over to the display of ninja weapons mounted on the wall. I chuckle and follow, so predictable. "These are awesome!" I says, his words punctuated with a groan of longing. He touches his hand to the side of the display and his breath fogs the glass, and reads the sign out loud "It says 'The chokutō ("straight sword") is a straight, one-edged Japanese sword that was produced prior to the 9th century. Its basic style is likely derived from similar swords of ancient China. Chokutō were used on foot for stabbing or slashing and were worn hung from the waist.' I'd like to have a Chokuto!" Yuri says with a small smile, "It'd look awesome hanging from my wall!"
"Wow." I say,
"What?" Yuri asks quickly
"Nothing. I just didn't peg you for the interior decorator type." I say nonchalantly, and smile as I watch his face turn beet red.
"Interior decorator type..?" Yuri repeats staring at me. "I am so NOT the 'interior decorator type'!" He roars and punches me on the arm. He freezes and looks down at his fist and then at my arm, and then at me. It takes all the self control I have ever possessed not to laugh in this moment. It felt like a kitty punch! His face turns pink and he just mumbles "Shut up." And turns his attention to the next display. I walk slightly behind him just in case the smile I am willing not to come out makes an appearance. He's noticeably quiet for the next few exhibits, but when we get to the origami exhibit, which granted has nothing to do with ninjas but is still Japanese he speaks again. "Oh my god no! I HATE origami, run!" We speed walk away from the exhibit, and hide around a corner.
"Why the urgency?" I ask, glad to have him talking to me again.
"I just- I really hate origami." He says simply, but he seems a bit downcast, I wonder why.
"Any particular reason?" I say, and then quickly follow "Sorry, I shouldn't pry, you just seem upset, you don't have to answer." I lower my gaze to the floor.
"It's okay, it's just my mom, she loved to do this stuff, and then she.... left. I was 7." Yuri says quietly. Wow, good job dumb ass, I think to myself, You stepped right into the middle of a painful family ordeal.
"Wow, I'm really sorry. That sucks." I say awkwardly, trying to be as gentle and kind as I can.
"It's fine. Nothing you could do anyway." Yuri says shuffling his feet.
"Hey Yuri?" I say, "You punch like a kitten." His head shoots up and he looks at me, dead on, no trace of sadness left in his gaze.
"Oh yeah?" He says daringly, "Let's go, right here, right now, I could totally beat you!"
"Yuri!" I laugh, "We're in a museum!"
"Fine, we'll go outside of the museum." Yuri says persistently, "Come on!" He takes my hand and attempts to pull me outside. I don't move an inch. He braces himself against the floor and yanks again. Not an inch. He tries again but this time I allow myself to be pulled, and he goes flying out the door, and sprawls on the cobblestone sidewalk in the sun.
I laugh, walking over him I stick my hand out to help him up and say "I refuse to fight you, little kitten, but I will buy you an ice cream- if you read the labels for me. Japanese makes no sense."
Yuri takes my hand and gets up, he's smiling but fighting with himself to hide it, and he's losing. "Fine. But it'll be large." He says and leads me to a small store standing across the square outside of which is a small bench. We approach the store's counter and he reads me the types of ice cream, only getting stuck on one, but it's blue with green dots and we decide we wouldn't want it anyway so he stops trying. In the end he gets a triple scoop of peach and butter brickle crunch. I, on the other hand, get an equally large cherry chocolate walnut concoction. We pay and make our way over to the bench. We sit in the sun and lick our ice creams, while it may seem a bit eccentric to eat ice cream outside in 64 degree weather it's a nice day. The sun warms us through our coats, and, we're figure skaters after all, we can take the cold.
**Author's Note!**
So, that was Yurio's mom's backstory thingy! What did you think? They don't explicitly say that in the show, but you can infer something like that happened during the waterfall scene in Episode 3. Also, what did you guys think of this chapter as a whole? It was really fluffy, it wasn't intended to be a fluff-fest but it turned out that way. I'm happy with it though. Thoughts? I hope you guys liked it! Anyway, so this is the 3rd chapter I've published today, and can I just say I'm having so much fun writing this right now, and although I wasn't going to stretch this day out the way I am, I'm really enjoying it. I'm really excited with the direction this story is heading right now! Let's hope I don't screw it up! Lol. See you soon with the next chapter, probably in like an hour, bye!
P.S. Sorry if there are a lot of typos in these chapters, I'm typing at crazy speeds as I get more and more excited with the plot and character development!
