The weather was just so nice. The sun was shinning so bright it felt like its burning their skin. The lushes of green trees dancing to the breeze and giving them shade from the scorching sun and the warm air bringing the scent of summer just felt so great.
That day, after the interview Belle asked that they visit the mountain they camped together last winter. They had fun walking around the forest together, holding each others hands, laughing and talking about the past, the memories they shared that one winter night they spent stargazing together, though it was still high noon and the stars are still on the other side of the world, it was still fun.
They were happy being your very normal couple. The people they meet in the camp were happy to just look at them as well. They were greeted warmly, approached with smiles and congratulated for their battle well fought. People were asking to take pictures with them, telling them they are rooting for their love and are very happy to see them looking good together, it was a bit awkward but it was fun. That was the first time they were seen in public together after all they had to endure, without hiding and without putting on a mask. They can just be themselves and they are just simply contented. They couldn't contain the happiness they felt that day, as if it was finally a fulfilled dream. The acceptance they have been fighting for, they now have it, with in the grasp of their hands.
"Belle, about my enlistment..." he started while both of them were sitting by the wooden bench basking in the warm afternoon sun and fresh air. He was holding her hand, never letting it go, not even for a moment.
"Oppa... Shall we have fun today?" said Belle looking at him with a smile on her lips but their was sadness in her eyes.
"Belle," he whispered.
"Give me a nice memory for today Oppa... something I'll bring with me always." She looked at him with her eyes twinkling with tears threatening to fall and bit her bitten lips.
"Yeah..." he said slowly caressing her cheeks and even with sadness in his eyes, he forced himself a smile, "you're right, let's make today one of the most beautiful memories we have."
For a whole while they just sat there next to each other, holding each other, savoring the moment they have, listening to each others breathing even their heart beats. Keun Suk Oppa giving small kisses on her head or Belle leaning on his shoulders and touching his fingers as if memorizing the feel of his touch on her skin. It was a peaceful afternoon yet time seemed to have flown quickly than they would have wanted. A little later, Keun Suk Oppa made dinner for them while Belle busied herself just looking at him, never taking her eyes away from him. Sometimes she will fool him, throw things at him but it was fun. They laugh, they talk about things and the people didn't bother them. It was bliss.
But everything has to end... and they both know it was ending.
Evening came and on the deck where they once expressed their love for each other, Keun Suk Oppa held her again, hugging her from behind, close to him as tight as he can as if he was afraid of letting her go.
"Oppa, thank you for keeping your promise... I enjoyed today," she told him.
"Really?" he replied but he couldn't say that tears were already brimming in his eyes.
"So much. Last time we couldn't enjoy much because it was so cold but today it was fun, your presence was more than enough to warm my heart... even though it was a little awkward... ha ha" she chuckled at the memory of the people approaching and greeting them earlier.
"You're right, ha ha..."
Keun Suk Oppa couldn't say anything, Belle couldn't say anything as well. The mood seemed to have changed tremendously and in spite the warmth of the night, it felt like it turned winter cold inside their hearts.
