I try to stretch my neck, feeling discomfort go through my body.
“Ugh..” I groan, lifting my body a little from the bed.
Michael places his hand on my shoulder, gently setting me back on the bed.
“Baby, you’ve gotta try and relax. Okay? You’re doing well.” Michael says, his voice echoing through the empty room.
I furrow my eyebrows, “Get the nurse, please.” I ask.
Michael nods, getting up from his chair.
He opens the door, turning towards me. “I called mother and Joseph. Everyone is on their way.” He explains.
I nod, watching him walk out of the room.
I don’t know how long I’ve been here but it feels like forever. I can’t even explain how much discomfort I am in. Michael has been such a sweetheart though, staying by my side and everything. I can’t thank him enough, though he is my husband.
I suddenly feel a kick in the lower part of my stomach.
I gasp, taking in a sharp amount of air.
Damn! I hold onto my stomach.
“Please, babies, stop!” I softly cry.
The door opens as Michael and the nurse enter.
The nurse smiles at me, “Mia, how are you doing? You want me to check again?” She asks, putting latex gloves on.
I nod, “Yes, please.” I beg.
Michael walks towards me, sitting beside me as he grabs my right hand.
“Alright, let’s see how the babies are doing.” She grins, sitting in front of me.
The nurse lifts my dress up.
I try to look at her, “I’m sorry, I didn’t catch your name.” I blurt.
The nurse looks up at me and smiles, “My name is Sidney. I’ll be your nurse for the night.” She chuckles.
I weakly smile.
I hear Sidney sigh as she checks again.
“Mia, we’ve got a situation..” She mumbles.
My eyes widen, “What? What is it?” I panic.
The nurse stands up, taking her latex gloves off.
“You’re about five centimeters dilated.” She explains.
“I’ll get the doctor to run a quick ultrasound because by now you should’ve been about eight centimeters.” She frowns.
“I’ll be back.” Sidney says, walking out.
I lay my head down, sighing loudly. “Oh gosh..” I mumble, rubbing my hands against my face.
Michael holds onto my hands again, rubbing my thumb against my hand.
“Baby, everything will be alright. I'm sure of it. We've gone through this before." Michael weakly smiles.
I glare at him, "I've gone through this before, Michael. You don't have to experience the pain or anything." I say, gritting my teeth.
Michael frowns, "I do feel pain when you do, babe. Just not physically." Michael says.
I frown.
"Listen, whatever happens I'm going to be there. Okay?" Michael says, staring me in the eyes.
"I promise." He whispers, kissing the side of my face.
