I stood on the spot, frozen in place, watching the man come towards me. I couldn't move, even as he took my trembling hand and asked me, "Are you alright? Did he hurt you?"

My pounding heart and burning lungs prohibited my mouth from opening, but I forced a nod then a shake of my head.

A small wheeze came out of my parted lips and he quickly dropped my hand. My legs felt shaky and I sat down, embarrassed at my weakness.

"Good." The man stepped back a little bit, his whole body pale and covered in a sheen of sweat.

"Who are you?" The words were thick off of my tongue and part of me was surprised I remembered how to speak at all.

The man introduced himself as Dr. Bruce Banner.

I scooted away, preparing for a fight. My cloud formed on the tips of my fingers.

Instead of running or transforming back into his green alter ego, Dr. Banner crouched down to look me in the eye, his glance shifting between my eyes and the purple matter hovering on my left hand. "I'm not going to hurt you."

"That's what they said. The night they took me." My voice was cold and stung my mouth as they rolled out.

"Who took you?"

"Hydra," I looked around the room at all of the destroyed medical equipment. A breeze from the open hole in the wall blew past and I shuddered.

He spoke again, his voice soft. "How long have you been here?"

"Three years," I answered flatly as I adjusted my position on the pile of rubble.

I cringed at the sound of my voice. He wasn't going to help me if I kept snapping at him.

Bruce Banner adjusted his position as well, looking deep into my eyes with curiosity and what appeared to be awe. "You brought me back."

My face must have displayed my confusion because Banner elaborated.

"You brought me back. I was in the other guy," he winced, "and you pulled me out."

My eyes widened with curiosity. "You were inside that thing?"

He nodded.

"Who experimented on you?"

"Me," His face turned grim. "It went wrong."

"Oh."

"But you're an experiment, aren't you?" Banner lifted his head up. "What is it you can do?"

This time I quieted the music as I summoned the folder from under a layer of cracked glass and a large brick. He flipped it open.

"Experiment LJX-7," he read aloud."Mental musical generation for human and object manipulation. So that song that you used on me, your brain made it?"

This time, it was my turn to nod.

"How does it work?"

"I don't know," I answered, my voice soft. "It's just a part of me. I can just do it. I think of what I want to do and music plays. I can hide the music, but when I do, I'm not as powerful."

"How much are you able to do?" Bruce flipped through the folder.

"I'm not sure. I haven't had much chance to test myself."

Banner surveyed the room with his kind eyes. "How much of this was the other guy?" He gestured to the shambles of the laboratory.

I noticed the earnest worry in his voice and spoke. "You busted up the wall and knocked me free. I took out the people who didn't get hit by the cave in.

He nodded with masked guilt.

"What's going to happen to me?"

"Where's your family?"

"Gone," my heart faltered in my chest. There was a photo in my file. I shifted closer to Bruce and pulled it out.

Two faces were exed out, my mother and Georgia, two were circled, mine and Danny's, and my father's was scribbled out entirely.

"Anybody you know live nearby?" Dr. Banner looked worried.

"No,"

I couldn't be out on the streets again.

Not alone.

Bruce looked shy. "Maybe I could," his voice faltered. "No, you wouldn't like that," he mumbled to himself.

"I wouldn't like what?" I knew what he was saying and my pulse spiked. I wanted to hear it from him so badly.

He ducked his head. "Maybe, you and me, we could be each other's family. Being this," he gestured to himself. "It doesn't exactly make me a family man. But you beat the Hulk, you brought me back."

I nodded.

"I just don't want the Hulk to hurt you."

I made a sly face. "I'm sure, with some practice, I could take him."

I was surprised that I had opened up to him so quickly, but maybe this was how quickly I used to open up to people.

I barely know myself anymore.

"So how about it?"

I smiled, for the first time in a long time, and nodded.

"Now," Bruce said, his smile still in place. "What's your name?

"Li Anne. Just Li Anne."
