"Do you wanna talk about it?" Georgia asked, handing me a glass of water and a toasted bagel. I had hurled earlier when Steve tried to move me upstairs so I remained on the couch, a blanket draped over my bare legs.
Laura had given me a big shirt of Clint's and a baggy pair of boxers to wear and withheld her questions. Steve didn't want to leave me but G insisted I was fine in her care.
"Sure," I croaked. The cool water slid down my throat and I could feel it floating through my veins. "Story or questions?"
She plopped down on the couch, gently bouncing me as she did so. "Questions, definitely questions"
I nodded and she continued. "When did all of this start?"
Between nibbles of the bagel and sips of water, I told her the whole story. Ultron, Tony, the twins, how I got drained. She listened intently before jumping up and running into the kitchen.
"Do you want aspirin? I've got a headache."
I gave her a gulp of my water and we took two each. "So, how's the Barton clan?"
"Good. Clint's been training me to fight more."
"Like, with what?"
"Bow and arrow, gun, physical combat," GiGi seemed to shrink a little. "That was the compromise so I can go to college."
My heart filled with love for my sister. "Of course!"
"You aren't mad?" She asked in surprise.
Why would she think I would be mad? "No! I'm so happy that you can pursue your dreams."
She breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank you, Annie."
We hugged and when we did, I felt all of my exhaustion fall on me like a load of broken bricks. I fell asleep on the couch under Laura's watchful eye and when I woke up, she was stroking my hair off of my forehead.
"Hey, sweet girl," she said soothingly. "How are you feeling?"
My eyes blinked to adjust to the light. "Better, thanks, Laura."
"Thank you, for protecting my husband. And Nat. It means a lot to our whole family."
I sat up, pushing the warm blanket off of me. "You're welcome. They're my family too."
Laura hugged me gently and helped me up. She took me out to the secluded back porch where I could sit and have a nice view. The porch swing was clean and sunny, my lean legs draping over the entire thing. "Thank you, Laura."
"I'll leave you alone, you'll probably need some more rest before we try eating again or walking on your own." She closed the back door softly after her.
The trees around the house were beautiful with the sun making its way behind them because it was two in the afternoon. Birds twittered and danced in the breeze.
I pulled my phone out of my pocket.
"Hello?"
"Bucky?"
"Li Anne?" He sounded like he had drunk a lot of coffee. "Where are you? Are you ok?"
I adjusted myself on the swing so I was laying back. "Hey, I'm ok."
"Were you there in Africa with your dad? Is everything ok?
"Bucky, calm down. I'm ok. I was there with the whole team. We have to stay off the grid right now but we're safe."
"Why are you off the grid?" He sounded like he was trying to stay calm.
"We were on a mission to recover Loki's scepter and Tony and my dad accidentally made a murder bot who's trying to tear the Avengers apart."
