The next morning, Peter and I were walking down the street with Ned and it started again. Peter insisted carrying his books and wouldn't let me put any in my backpack.

"You got bit by a spider? Can it bite me? Well, it probably would've hurt, right? You know what? Whatever. Even if it did hurt, I'd let it bite me. Maybe. How much did it hurt?" Ned immediately began pestering.

"The spider's dead, Ned." Peter cut the conversation short, allowing no room for further discussion on the subject.

Ned shrugged and looked ahead. His eyes grew wide and I followed his gaze. "Whoa."

We all stopped short, examining Delmar's Sandwiches. It was almost burnt down, the store name almost illegible. Police tape and barricades surrounded the shop. Various police officers and crime scene investigators were working around it.

"You were here?"

Peter warily eyed the agents standing near the scene. "Yeah."

"You both could've died."

We just stood staring at the badly damaged building. Expressions completely serious.

"Do you lay eggs?" Ned asked.

"What? No." Peter laughed at the absurd and anticlimactic suggestion.

It went like that all day. That day was block schedule and after the test, we had a lab to complete.

In the middle of the chemistry lecture, me, Peter, and Ned were in a group together. A torch was boiling a dark-colored liquid on the desk. We were wearing safety glasses. Ned rolled over in his chair toward Peter, who is scribbling in his notebook. "Can you spit venom?"

"No."

"Can you summon an army of spiders?"

Suppressing a sigh, Peter looked up in the guise of concentrating on the lecture and bent down again to take some notes. "No, Ned."

History was worse. We were talking about the Sokovia Accords, something that puzzled me because it was fairly new.

"The Sokovia Accords were put into place..."

Ned leaned around me to whisper to Peter, "How far can you shoot your webs?"

"It's unknown. Shut up."

I rolled my eyes at both the lecture and Ned.

"...to begin regulating..."

"If I were you, I would stand on the edge of a building and just shoot it as far as I could-"

"Shut up, Ned." Peter's voice rose a little in volume. The girl sitting in front of us turned around and shots us an irritated glare.

Then came PE. I didn't sit with Peter and Ned because Liz and her friend, Betty, approached me and asked me to sit with the,

A small, old television was set up beside Coach Wilson, the PE teacher, who was standing with a bored expression. Captain America's Fitness Challenge was playing on the screen. Captain America, in his full uniform, smiled pleasantly, standing in a locker room. I rolled my eyes for the millionth time that day.

"Hi. I'm Captain America. Whether you're in the classroom or on the battlefield..."

"This is so boring," Betty whispered to me.

I nodded back, trying to imagine Steve being willing to do this.

"...fitness can be the difference between success or failure."
