"Danny, be careful, buddy!" Bucky kept a close watch on Danny as he sat in a pile of straw, waving bits in his fists.
I looked over at him and smile. It was hot, even for November and we were getting the last of the straw in for the rainy season. Sweat trickled down our faces and we wiped it off on our clothes, ripped, torn, and old, the only clothes appropriate for this job.
I hadn't been to the farm in so long, it was good to be back, doing work.
"Annie, can you move Danny?" Bucky asked as he began to lift a particularly heavy bundle.
My cloud grabbed him and floated our son over his father's head. Danny waved at Bucky and he smiled back. I laughed as the cloud came to a stop and Danny jumped down into my arms. "Momma!"
I caught him. "Was that fun, buddy?"
He reached his arms out, trying to get to Bucky but I held him tight. "Da-da!" He wailed.
I hummed quietly for him and Danny refocused on me. "Da-da's busy. He'll hold you in a minute."
I turned back to Bucky but he was staring straight past me. I whipped around quickly.
A party of men was headed towards us, T'Challa in the lead. A Kingsguards-man set an elaborate and high-tech-looking equipment case down on our cart wordlessly, opened the lid, and stepped back. Bucky and I approached together, his arm around my waist, me carrying a squirming Danny. There was a new Vibranium arm in the case.
It really was true. The message from Strange I received this morning still rung in my ears. "He was right, protect Earth." I didn't know it would start right now.
Bucky sighed. "Where's the fight?"
"On its way." T'Challa led us back to the palace. He didn't say much.
I began to worry. "T'Challa, what does this mean for us?"
He gave me a reassuring smile. "When this is over, the three of you may do whatever you wish. Captain Rogers and his team will be here soon."
Bucky and I got cleaned up in the palace. He was given a jacket and pants to wear, his new arm was attached, and he looked a little better. I washed my hair and got dressed. I was wearing a jean skirt with purple fishnet tights underneath and an off the shoulder black t-shirt that showed one side of my purple sports bra.
When I came out, Bucky pretended to faint at the sight of me and I laughed. Danny was in Bucky's arms, examining the metal.
"If you two are ready," Okoye said. "Captain Rogers in here."
We headed out the the landing pad, my heart thumping my my chest. I took Danny from Bucky the thirteen month old started to whine and I bounced him on my hip. I wasn't a very big person and Danny was getting heavier.
I could see the quinjet had landed and the group was walking with T'Challa towards us.
"How we looking?" Natasha asked.
T'Challa remained grim. "You will have my Kingsguard, the Border Tribe, the Dora Milaje, and..."
We passed some Kingsguard taking Vision and Wanda to another facility and Wanda turned to smile at me. Bucky smiled when he saw Steve. "A semi-stable, 100-year-old man and his beautiful wife."
The two best friends shared a hug and Nat hugged me and kissed Danny on top of his head.
"How you been, Buck?" Steve asked.
"Uh, not bad, for the end of the world." Bucky smiled.
"I think there's someone you should see," Nat whispered and pushed me towards the rest of the group, taking Danny.
