The next few days were a blur, helping Bucky get adjusted to our new life, taking over the funeral preparations for Tony when a distraught Pepper called asking for help, and attending conferences for the rest of the Avengers.
Dad and Steve were organizing the return plan for the Infinity Stones and in his spare time, Steve was living at our house along with my dad. Danny loved the extra attention.
To my great annoyance, someone mentioned Danny to the United Nations and they called me, Bucky, and Danny to a conference in Germany.
Bucky had been officially pardoned, government wise, so he was no longer being hunted and could resume being an American citizen but he was nervous about going back. I was too. The last time I had been in that building, I was being tortured. We were both determined to be the best we could this time.
We arrived in Germany at our assigned date by portal to save money on flights.
Bucky was worried. He kept fidgeting in his suit. He wore one black glove, to cover his metal, despite my many protests.
Danny had on a little suit, his hair slicked back like a school boy.
I was wearing a black suit outfit with a skirt and a jacket, a lavender shirt underneath. My black heels clicked on the polished floor of the United Nations headquarters.
The secretary at the desk smiled when she saw me. "Hello, Mrs. Barnes, the counsel will see you know."
I nodded and we headed in the direction she pointed.
Bucky opened the door for us and we stepped into a large room, filled with a huge, tired, half moon of chairs. A table with three chairs was set up opposite them.
We had been told that the meeting would be small but I doubted it as soon as I saw the English prime minister. Talking to T'Challa.
Bucky gripped my hand tightly and I squeezed it back. "It's gonna be ok," I whispered. "Let me do the talking."
He nodded and Danny looked up at me. "What's going to happen, Mommy?"
"I'm not sure," I said, taking the middle seat at the table.
"The next item on the agenda," a tall man said, looking at his computer. "James, Li Anne, and Daniel Barnes here to discuss the items before you."
They hadn't given us an agenda. Everyone else had one. I was going to have to get mean. When the UN didn't get you an agenda, that meant they didn't want you preparing what you were going to say before hand.
"This session will be led by American Secretary of State,Thaddeus Ross."
I laughed to myself and Bucky looked over at me. He raised an eyebrow and I mouthed, Sokovia Accords.
He nodded, suppressing his own smile.
"Mrs. Barnes, it is good to see you on the right side of the law again," Ross jabbed, stepping up to the podium.
I smiled an icy smile. "Oh, yes, it feels so nice to be serving with government giants such as yourself."
He took it in stride and started right in. "We have a few items we'd like to discuss with you today. The first, thank you for serving in The Battle for Earth last week."
I nodded, not saying anything.
"The second," Ross said, making complete eye contact with me. "Is to inform you that several countries have been requesting your assistance in several issues dealing with crime. We will brief you and fly you out as soon as possible."
