Chapter 41: Surprise, Surprise

It was early morning when Ma'am Annie dismissed their class. After a round of constructive comments on their Broadway performances, she gave the class generous grades for their Final Voice assessment. She gave quick tips for the next course, Voices 121. She also said that she will still be their Voice Coach next semester. She then bade the class goodbye.

Figuring they can get the early time off to chill, the gang hang out at the school's patio. They sat and laid down under the trees.

With his arms beneath his head, Joao said with great relief,

J: I cannot believe the semester is ending. Did it not feel like four months have gone so fast?

Everyone nodded. Sue agreed with him,

S: Lessons learned. Life lessons learned. Talents tested. Lovers bloomed. Friendships built.

The others smiled. Russell chimed in,

R: I don't know about you, guys. But it felt like an adventure. It's not just all ups... there were also downs and challenges. To put it more accurately, it was... a rollercoaster ride.

F: Ako rin. Sobrang dami nating pinagdaanan. Minsan naiisip ko nga, gusto kong umalis kahit isang beses. Muling mapag-isa. Nakakapagod eh.

Ford lashed at her.

T: Eh ano? Sabi mo gusto mo mapag-isa? Ano pa bang ibig sabihin mo don?

The two nodded.

N: Two weeks na lang bago ang summer. Mas mabuting magplano na nang maaga pa.

Alora began counting on her fingers.

A: Two weeks? Edi mga May 20-ish, magbabakasyon na kayo. Wait, yung sa BOC! Yung BOC, 'di ba sa May 27 na yon? May narinig na ba kayo doon?

She inquired. The boys frowned, remembering their failed attempt at appeal.

R: Looks like your plan did not workout, huh?

Russell said. Joao whined,

J: I don't know! I was so sure of it! They were clearly breaking the rules!

F: Ano nga ba ang meron sa age limit? Hindi na ba pwedeng magperform ang matatanda?

T: Hindi naman sa ganoon. With great age comes with great experience. Unfair sa mga iba na nakikipagcontest.

R: I don't think that's the reason, Tristan. The BOC champion will be a legitimate recording group. They will write albums, have world tours, and basically become the biggest band in the world. They need young ones to assure longevity in the career of the band.

S: A bit discriminatory but I kinda agree with that argument.
