Butters liked to walk by the frozen waters of Starks pond at night. He loved listening to the quiet, only broken by the snow crunching beneath his feet, and the faint bird song echoing around him. Here he was free to be who he was, far away from people like Cartman and safe from all of the hate in the world. The faint sound of sniffling broke the blonde boy out of his trance, and he went to investigate the noise. His eyes met a boy in a brown jacket with his head stuffed into his hands. Butters curiously walked up to the boy, the hat he was wearing instantly telling him that it was his friend Stan. " Well hiya Stan! " He said cheerfully, making Stan jump and quickly wipe the tears from his cheeks. " Oh hi dude" Stan said, trying to sound happy but his broken tone not fooling Leo. Butters sat down in the snow next to him. " Its okay Stan.. To not be okay. " He said softly. He gently brushed the black hair out of Stans eyes, careful not to startle him. " You don't have to tell me what's wrong but.. Just know that I'm here for you and... And I care about you. " Stans eyes welled with tears, and he put his head in his hands, heavily crying. Butters put his hand on his friends back, gently drawing patterns and rubbing circles. " Its okay buddy, just let it all out" he said softly, watching a squirrel eating a nut in the distance. " Sometimes you just gotta cry Stan". Butters looked sadly at the crying boy, wishing he could do more to help. After a few moments off comfortable silence, Stan decided that he had cried enough, and looked up to see Butters intently watching something, his face adorably grinning at whatever it was. Stan used this moment to study his friend, looking first at his sandy blonde hair, then at the light blush constantly dusted across his nose and cheeks, at his long eyelashes and soft lips. Without looking away from the horizon, butters handed Stan a tissue, the hello kitty packaging making him chuckle slightly. Trust Butters to love childrens cartoons. He blew his nose, enjoying the calmness Butters somehow projected. He felt like he could stare at the boy all day. " My dad.. He was drunk.. being a dick about me and Wendy breaking up. Said I was a loser... " Stan sadly chuckled to try and lighten the mood. " If it helps Stan.. I don't think you're a loser. I think you're pretty swell. " Butters said, turning to look into Stans eyes, making him blush. Butters gently smiled, and Stan lifted his hand, placing it on Butters chin. Butters hand grabbed lightly to Stans wrist, his head tilting in confusion, until Stan pulled his head towards his own, closing the distance between the two in a sweet, tender kiss. The two smiled, blushing lightly. " I think you're pretty swell too" Stan smiled, linking his hand with Leos. The pair looked at the sunset before them, coating the icy scene with a warm orange glow. Butters leaned his head on Stans shoulder happy he was able to make his friend smile again. " You're a good person Butters, you could have just walked away when you saw me sitting here, but you didn't. " " You were sad! I couldn't just let you sit here alone without at least trying to make you feel better. " " That's the thing about you Butters, it doesn't matter who it is, you just want everyone to be happy. " Stan smiled, leaning his head on top of Butters'. " Doesn't everyone? " Butters asked confused, making Stan chuckle lightly. " unfortunately not buttercup.. But if everyone were like you the world would be such a nice place to live in... Just imagine.. No wars, no violence, no hate, just... Just love" Stan smiled, looking down at the silky mess of blonde hair nestled into his chest. " Yea.. That sounds nice... That's why I come here so much.. It makes me feel like its just me and the world.. You know? " Butters smiled, eyes still focused on the warm glow of the orange sun. " Yea.. Its really nice here... The quiet is so refreshing compared to the bullshit we have to deal with back in town. " Stan agreed happily, picking a small flower from the ground and spinning it between his thumb and fore finger. He looked at the innocent and beautiful flower, and couldn't help but think that it was just like Leo. He gently placed it behind butters ear, making him smile adorably, looking up at him. " wow" Stan breathed. " what is it Stan? " Quizzed the small boy. " The flower.. It suits you. " Stan smiled, gently kissing Leos nose, earning a giggle from the boy, warming Stans heart. " How can one boy be so perfect? " Stan smiled at the blonde, who smiled back mischievously. " I don't know Stan, how caaaaan you? " Stan ruffled the boys hair laughing, grinning harder when Butters hair fell over his eyes and he attempted unsuccessfully to blow it away with his mouth, ending up just looking like a confused chipmunk. " Stan.. Do you um.. Do you" Butters nervously began, rubbing his knuckles together and frowning slightly. " What is it Leo? " Stan asked, making Butters look up at him suddenly. " What? That is your name." Stan shrugged. " Yea its just weird to be called by it again.. Feels kind of nice actually" Butters smiled. Stan held his hand tighter. " Ok Leo, what were you about to say just then? " Stan asked, making Butters chew his lip nervously. " I was just wondering if.. If you wanted to be my uh.. My boyfriend.? " Butters blushed, looking at Stan hopefully. Stan nodded " Of course Butterfly" making Butters eyes light up, and jump on Stan, hugging him tightly, knocking him on his back in the process. They both giggled happily, hugging each other tightly. Stans sadness had completely melted away, and Butters decided that this was no longer his quiet space, it was THEIR quiet space, and it was the only place he ever wanted to be.
