~ Christmas Day ~

"No! Fucking! Way!"

I am actually gonna pass out. Jay and Erin are engaged!?

"Woah, it's not what you think!" Erin says quickly. Jay just laughs.

"Told you that would happen." He says to Erin, and they both laugh. What am I missing here?

"The ring isn't on my ring finger. So please, reconnect your jaws, both of you." Erin says calmly as Jay shakes his head and continues laughing at us. I turn to face Patrick and he still looks confused. Good, because I'm still confused too. We're both still just standing in front of them, too. I'm not sitting down though, not yet.

"It's a promise ring." Jay explains, as Erin looks on at him lovingly. "All this time she's been worried about being with me in case we ended up breaking up. Not because of the distance between us or any of that shit. She was just scared about what might go wrong. I needed to let her know that that's not gonna happen, not on my part anyway. So, that's what the rings for. That's what it represents."

He turns his head so that he's looking at Erin. "I said it last night and I'll say it again. I'm never gonna leave you. Never. I promise."

She practically melts into his arms on the couch. So cute. Okay, so Jay didn't propose to her. He just bought her a ridiculously expensive ring to prove how serious he is about her. Such a romantic gesture.

"So, why last night, Jay?" I ask.

"I was gonna give it to her tonight, actually. That's why I was so nervous about seeing her yesterday. I didn't know how it was gonna go." He faces Erin again. "But you were so cool with me last night, it was exactly what I needed. I had enough courage then, so I bit the bullet and did it."

"You had the ring at my house!?" I ask.

"No, we walked over here after you guys went out with Benji. I told her I wanted to give her something. And I did." They grin at each other again.

"Wow, who knew expensive jewellery was all it would take to finally win her over? You could have done this years ago." Patrick says jokingly.

Erin laughs and Jay shrugs his shoulders. "It just took some time, everything does."

They beam at each other again, and I suddenly feel like a third wheel. Patrick's here too though, it's all good.

"I do wanna marry you. You know that, right?" Jay says to Erin, and she nods her head at him.

"I do now." She replies, and they lean into each other a little.

"Someday. Just not right now, I'm not an idiot." Jay says, and they both laugh.

"I'll remember that." Erin says, right before she throws her arms around his neck and kisses him. With Patrick and I standing right here watching. The fuck? I toss a sideways look at Patrick and he nods his head towards the door. Uh, yes.

"Wow, those two change their opinion on each other more than they change underwear, right?" Patrick says as soon as we're out of the lounge.

"You'd think. But they don't, actually. Not really. That's true love, right there." I say with a smile as we walk down the spiral staircase.

"Seems that way, huh?" He says. "I can't believe he just told her he wants to marry her. Right in front of us, like we weren't even there!"

"I know! Seeing them this way is gonna take some getting used to for sure. But I'm totally happy about it."
