The Return of the Dragons

Part 42 Dragon Slobber - Zephyr POV

Dear Journal,

I am so amazed right now. Tonight, I am not in my own bed, but I am curled up with my Daddy's dragon's offspring! I have not only seen the Hidden World and ridden on Toothless, but I have bonded with Eclipse ( that is what I named this nightlight.) Daddy will be so proud! I did what he taught me to do. Dragons have been the legacy that he has tried to pass on to us and I know he has done so successfully with me. For I could not love these beautiful, wonderful creatures more!

And Nuffink too! He, despite his fears, bonded with Dawn (he has even named his dragon already like some nerd I know!) Even right now they are comfortably cuddled up together sleeping. I know Daddy will be so proud of him for facing his fears.

I love my family so much I just want them to be happy.

I slowly scribble all this in my journal by the light of the fire Toothless lit for us. As I said Nuffink is fast asleep cuddled with Dawn as she is very sweetly letting him use her tail as a blanket. Those two are so sweet together!

Toothless and his mate are cuddled together a short distance away and Dusk, the other nightlight, is tucked up in a scaly ball nearby.

As for me, I am tucked up with Eclipse and slowly getting sleepier and sleepier. I can feel myself waning as I scribble in my dragon journal which has dried now. His warm scales are comforting and my heart is warm and my eyes are dropping. His soft purring is lulling me to sleep and I feel very happy.

My eyes flutter open to find in their view a dragon's face inches from my face. A pair of blue eyes gazes into mine and a cute little white nose sniffs me. A slobbery tongue sticks out and drips gooey dragon saliva on me. Completely grossed out, I wake up instantly.

"EWWWWW! Eclipse! Why would you do that? Ugh! Now it's all over me!"

He backs away with his head down, trying to look small gurgling sadly. My heart shatters.

"Oh, Eclipse, Buddy, I'm sorry." I say holding out my hands. The young dragon comes and nuzzles me lovingly, purring as I pet his huge head. "Yes I love you too Bud." I say.

"AAAAAHHHHH!" Well Nuffink's awake. "UGHHH! Dragon slobber!"

"You too?" I ask as he jumps up brushing himself off being thoroughly disgusted.

"Yeah." he says petting Dawn. "It will wake you up alright. What you say about a flight?"

My eyes get wide. "I thought you were too scared." I say

Nuffink shifts from one foot to the other. He seems uncertain about what he's about to say. "Well, I felt better yesterday after a while. It just felt good to be up there on Toothless with the wind in my face and it reminded me... it reminded me of flying with Daddy and how... and how safe I felt with his arms around me. I felt like I couldn't fall and yesterday I thought that Toothless wouldn't let me fall either, and I don't think Dawn will. Yes my girl, you won't let me fall will you." he says hugging his dragon.

"Oh Nuff!" I exclaim. "That's exactly the way I feel!"

"So what do you say? shall we explore a little?"

Most of me wants to say yes, but a small part of me is reminding me how we have been gone from our mission for too long. We really do need to get back. Daddy and Mommy will be worrying about us and we still need to find the leader of the pirates and talk him out of his pillaging.

"Well," I begin, "We really should be getting on with our mission."

Nuffink gasps. "Yeah! and now we can use the dragons!"

I shake my head. "Nope."

"Why not?" he cries.

"Daddy told me never to use the dragons unless there was no other way." I reply firmly.

"Well how about this sis!" Nuffink says. "How are we gonna get out of here without dragons?"

He does have a point. Our ship is gone and we can't possibly get up the waterfall without dragons. Maybe it is the last option.

"Ya know what Nuff, I think you're right!"

I go look over at Eclipse. "Ya hear that Bud? You're gonna see the world!"
