The Next Day

I sighed as I felt around the bed trying to find my phone. It was ringing non stop and I've been doing well at ignoring it until I just got tired of hearing the ringtone.

"Hello," I answered gruffily without opening my eyes.

"Baby girl you still sleep," Chris's voice asked on the other end making me instantly pop up.

"Chris," I asked breathlessly.

"Yeah who else," he laughed. "Naw but were you still sleep?"

"Well yeah it's still morning why wouldn't I be sleep?"

"Girl its 4:24 pm," he shouted laughing some more. I squinted looking at the time on my phone. I had all the curtains closed so I honestly didn't know what time it was, but he was right and I was trying to see what the hell happened. "Damn Naomi must be still sleep too huh? We've been trying to reach both of y'all."

"Wait who," I asked still confused.

"Me and August, nigga wake up!"

"I'm trying," I giggled. Last night was crazy and we had such a good time, but damn I was wore the hell out feeling old as ever. "Why are ya'll trying to reach us what's wrong?"

"Nothing's wrong. We're getting back in these LA streets and was trying to see were y'all coming out with us?"

"Fuckkk," I sighed. "Y'all not tired?"

"Hell nah! Listen just wake up Naomi and y'all be ready by 7:00."

"Damn okay daddy."

"I could be that if that's what you're into," he flirted. I bit my lip staring up at the ceiling, ugh this boy. I really need to draw a boundary line somewhere, but for some odd reason I just couldn't get around to actually doing it.

"Bye Chris," I said. "I'll see you later." I laid in my bed a little longer, yawning loudly and getting in that good, good strech before I finally started moving around. I walked down the hall to Naomi's room, knocking lightly before I crept insdie.

"Naomi," I called softly. "Wake up boo." I shook her a little so she could start moving around plus she was sleep so peacefully I thought my bitch was dead for a second.

"Huh," she asked with her eyes closed.

"Wake up pretty girllll"

"Go away Raya," she frowned.

"Aite cool well when August pull up here in about a hour don't be looking crazy," I said pretending to walk away.

"Bitch you said who," she rose up looking at me with squinty eyes.

"Mhm, you heard me. Check your phone if you think I'm lying." She dug it from her under pillow before screaming.

"Bitch I gots to get DRESSED," she flew out the bed heading for her closet. I let her do that while I went to the other room to call my babies. I had to check on them before I stepped out anywhere. Della greeted me before she put them on the phone. My heart lit up just by seeing their little faces. Della had them looking so cute today.

"Heyyyy my babies!"

"Hey mama," they said in unison.

"Mama we're going to the water park today," Ryan exlaimed. I could tell he was so excited.

"Ohh that sounds fun! You're going with your Nana?"

"No Auntie Tee is taking us," Danielle answered. I had to refrain from rolling my eyes at the mention of Tee's name. She was Danny's sister and she never really liked me so the feeling quickly became mutual. I couldn't stand her ass, but she always took very good care of my children so I wasn't tripping about that.

"That's good. Well I hope y'all have fun," I told them. We chatted for a little longer before we hung up. I hadn't heard from Danny since yesterday but I saw on his snap that he was at the club last night. From the background, I could tell it was a lot of women in the section as well. How can you tell me, you don't want to lose me and do reckless shit like that? The old me probably would have gave a damn, but this new me that's slowly coming into process didn't give a fuck. To be honest, fuck him, DISRESPECTFULLY. I went on about my unbothered way going through my  suitcase trying to find something sexy to wear. Aye, Danny while you out there fucking up it's another man out here lucking up. Somebody should tell that bitch that.

**

"Chris just come in please," I begged. Yeah, Naomi and I were definitely not ready by the time they got here but they should've known that. We had to spend about 30 minutes discussing last night before we could even think about putting on clothes.

"I should've known y'all asses was going to take forever," he sighed. "Here we come though." After I hung up the phone I went back to finishing up my make up while Naomi fixed her hair.

"Why you gotcha lul dog sittin outside Naomi," August asked as he came in with Naomi's little yorkie in his hands. Yes, Naomi has a dog named Phoenix who I love dearly. She said a dog would be the closet thing she would have to having a child for now so you just can say that's my dogphew.

"Aww my baby I forgot to get him," she rushed over to August taking Phoenix out of his arms. She held him close to her chest speaking baby gibberish as she walked off.

"You look beautfiul," Chris complimented looking at me through the bathroom mirror. I couldn't help the blush that crept to my face on instant. I looked down at the counter no longer being able to remain eye contact with him without smiling like an idiot.

"Thank you, I'm almost ready I just need to put on my lipgloss."

"See if you were my girl you wouldn't even need all that because my lips would be on yours too much and I don't need all that glossy shit on mine feel me," he joked removing a piece of hair out of my face.

"Boy you need to stop," I lazily warned.

"Just jokes Raya. I respect your marriage."

"Oh really," I asked flabbergasted.

"Really," he said before walking out of the bathroom with me right behind him. "So y'all about ready to go?"

"Yeah I am. Naomiii," I yelled. "You ready boo?"

"Yeah she ready," August answered as the two came out of her room. Naomi turned off a few lights and locked the door before we headed for Chris's Range Rover. I see he loves cars.

"So where are we going? Y'all just called us all demanding and shit not even telling us what we're doing," Naomi said.

"First we getting some dranks," Chris replied.

"Damn we were just throwing back shots like crazy last night," I was shook that these niggas were trying to drink again. I tapped out after the fifth shot but those two were going crazy.

"You can never have too many dranks," August replied leaning in a little since I was sitting in the front with Chris."

"Shiddd," I responded. "Speak for yourself  homeboy because once I tap out that's it!"

"We're not going to make you take all them shots again I promise," Chris said placing a hand on my thigh. I said nothing and I pretended to not even notice it as I looked out the window. I'm playing with fire and I hope I don't get burned. It's been about a week and Chris has been a bad habit, my guilty pleasure if you will. I wanted to feel an ounce of remorse or guilt but I just didn't. If anything being in these moments, making these memories, felt right. I felt like I was supposed to be sitting next to this man, enjoying my life, being happy, and unapologetic, doing what was best for me. I didn't have to just be Danny Williams wife or just his baby mama. I wasn't just his eye candy. I wasn't his shadow or puppet. I was Raya. I was me and man, it felt so damn good to be me again.
