"Oh wow, I know you said your mom went all out, but this is amazing," Naomi said in awe as we went inside my parents home. As expected every room downstairs was elegantly decorated showcasing my mother's wealthy taste throughout.
"It smells wonderful in here mother," I said walking up to my mom. She looked beautiful in her formal fitting Alexander McQueen dress. Light radiated off her from being in her prime element, the center of attention . She smiled widely as she gave me a kiss on the cheek. It's sad to me that this is when she seems to be her happiest.

"Hello daughter, you look beautiful and thank you I have Chef Amari preparing the main course tonight. Where are my grand children," she asked looking around.
"They're in the front with Danny talking to his friends," I answered before bringing Naomi in a little closer giving my mom no other option, but to speak. Once my mom looked her over she revealed her famous tight smile.
"Oh Naomi, I didn't see you there," she expressed in mocked concern. "Welcome and enjoy." She kept it short before patting me on my lower back. "Now excuse me girls I have guests to attend to."

"Giiiirl if you're mama wasn't your mama I swear she would hear a mouthful from me," Naomi warned. Her mouth was turned up slightly in frustration as she watched my mom walk away. I only shook my head, it was no way to rationalize for a mother like mine.
"I'm already knowing boo, but I appreciate you for always showing respect. It just proves I made no mistake with classifying you my best friend," I grabbed her hand so I could lead her in the direction I was more focused on. "I want you to meet my favorite cousin, I swear you'll love her and you two will get along just fine." I guided her amongst the crowd in search for Asia and my auntie Tricia. When I finally spotted them in the kitchen Danny was already there talking to them. My aunt Tricia was laughing at whatever he said while Asia stood from a distance with a slight mug. Two years ago she told me she disliked him and felt like I could do better, but never told me the reason for her change of behavior towards him. I had a feeling I didn't even want to know.

"Oh hey baby, I was telling Aunt Tricia about how Dani got her head stuck in the bed rail the other day," he smiled eagerly. I laughed as well recalling the memory.
"If y'all don't watch my baby I'm coming to get both of them," Aunt Tricia teased.
"Trust me auntie you can get them any time. Asia let's get some drinks," I proposed. "Nice seeing you auntie," I said before walking away with Naomi and Asia on either side.

"Hey sis you're so quiet," I finally embraced her in a hug.
"I know I'm sorry I was just thrown off for a second. How are you baby?"she smiled. That was just a kind way of her saying my husband's presence put her in a bad mood.
"Well and blessed as always," once we arrived at the bar I moved over allowing Naomi to be seen. "Asia, this is my best friend and sister all in one, Naomi. And Naomi this is my most favorite cousin in the world Asia. I've been wanting you two to meet forever."
"Nice to meet you," Asia spoke first. "So you're the one who finally helped my cousin get a reality check?"
Naomi laughed. "Yes ma'am that would be me."
"Well thank you. All my auntie ever does is fill her head with vain, uppity bullshit," she turned her nose up again. My mother and Asia fell out many years ago because my mom treated her like she was beneath us after she allowed her baby daddy to give her three kids and trauma. Plus, the joys of being a single mother. She didn't make good choices, but it wasn't our business to judge. When she needed us the most my mother shut her out, not me though. Ever since then Asia kept her distance from my mom.
"Just know my girl is good as long as I got her," Naomi reassured.

"And that's just that. I like her Ry," Asia told me.

"Told you, this is my main bitch," I laughed. I know I needed to make my rounds with speaking to our guests so Naomi and Asia followed me until it was time to eat.
Nearly the whole dinner Danny was texting away on his phone as if I wouldn't notice. I won't mention it because I could care less, but damn if he should have enough respect to at least try to be discreet. Hey, he may just be innocently handling business, but let's be real here.

"Who has been blowing your phone up like that sis," Asia whispered to me. She was sitting to the right of me as I sat on my phone, but the light indication would shine under me so you could see it depending on your view.

"I'm not sure, it's probably nothing though," I shrugged it off.
"I can still tell when you're lying goofy," she chuckled. "I hear you though. It's not my business but good for you honey as you should. I hope I get to meet him soon," she winked before rising from the table. I didn't want to mention Chris, because I'm married and it makes me no better than Danny. I also just don't want to jinx anything regarding him because I feel so deep about the attraction we share. That's my little woot da woot and we'll just keep it like that... for now 😏
