Chris
I had my leg propped up crunching down on what I think was my third bag of chips watching the game that was playing on the tv. I know I was going over my limit with the junk food, but I been sitting out here waiting with my mom for Raya to get out of her first physical therapy appointment. We've been waiting for about two hours so my stomach was now touching my back, plus I was bored as hell.
"You want the rest of this honey bun," my mom asked. She already had it covered back in the wrapper with her face frowned up. "They do not make those honey buns taste the same anymore."

"Tastes fine to me," I already bit off of a piece. She looked at me with the same expression.
"Please remind me to not make you my fitness trainer ever ," she said. "I'll fool around and be fatter than when I started."
"Be for real ma, you know I get these folks whipped right in shape." I flexed my muscles a little bit making her laugh.
(Fun Fact: In my head, the Chris I've been picturing for this character is the healthy , happy weight Chris. NOT skin & bones Christopher bc currently I feel like I can wrap my whole hand around his ankles & my hands are little af so that should tell you something. Let's just keep this visual in mind😂)

"I seen that Ammika girl the other day at the grocery store."
"Oh, well that's nice." I tried to play it off as if I wasn't interested in knowing more details, but my mama knew me like the back of hand.
"Yeah, well she had a child with her. A little boy to be exact."
"That sounds about right. You know the last time we really spoke she told me she was pregnant."
"I remember," she turned to look at me seriously. "Chris I took a good look at that boy, he looked exactly like you."
"Mama please don't start," I sighed heavily.
"I'm just saying baby, you know I wouldn't bring it up if I didn't believe it. Deep down, I just knew that was my grandbaby."
"So we're basing DNA off of your feelings now?"
"No, we're basing it on the obvious. There is definitely still a 50/50 chance that, that little boy could be yours. You should be more concerned about that angel."
"That's not my son and we're leaving it at that," I snapped. Ma looked at me crazily before she pursed her lips together. Nothing was said after that. I wasn't trying to get snappy like that with her, but damn she was pressing the issue.
Ammika was my most recent ex. We were together for about three years. I use to be her fitness trainer back in the day. Eventually feelings just started to grow from there. To sum our relationship up in one word, I believe toxic would be the best fit. I cheated on her toward the beginning of our relationship and we never got back right as a couple. As shitty as it sounds, I pushed for a relationship with her because of the fact I was trying to get over my ex before her. She was the rebound but somewhere along the line I started to fall for her for real. Long story short, we just didn't mesh well with one another so we broke up in the end. She got with this guy a few months after we ended things, but she would still sneak around with me. We had sex on and off until she told me she was pregnant. She also asusred me she was confident that it was the other dude's baby and she basically demanded me to leave her alone for good because she didn't want to lose him. We lost full contact after her announcement.
Deep down, I knew I should've cared more about it but I just didn't. I vowed to myself the next child I had would be by a woman I planned on being with for the rest of my life. I, especially wanted to be there from start to finish. Nia, didn't inform me that Royalty was my daughter until after she had her so I missed Royalty's birth and the early stages of her life. I wasn't looking forward to that again for my second child. Ammika knew that too, so that shit will hurt if she knew that child was mine and hadn't said a damn thing about it to me.
Minutes passed, with this shit resting in the back of my mind. For the sake of curiosity, I grabbed my phone and searched her name on my Instagram. I huffed realizing she had me blocked still. Just when I had enough sense to get on my business insta and checked her profile from there Raya was already coming out.
"Ohh look at her. You survived it baby," my mom smiled proudly as she watched Raya hopping over to us. She had some new accessories to add to her collection. Crutches and a cast. Her pretty face was all made up making me laugh because her spoiled ass was pouting.
"Fix ya face lil girl. You must don't want to walk again," I kissed the side of her temple.
"I hate this stupid thing already," she complained.
"It's going to be all worth it in the long run baby girl, but luckily you have Nurse Hawkins here to help."
"Yes Nurse Hawkins I think I need another home cooked meal to make me feel better," Raya poked out her bottom lip.
"Oh girl you're worse than my grandbaby. We're going to have to go to the grocery store though. Oooh what about some smothered chicken tonight," my mom looked at her getting excited.
"Yes ma'am I think that will make me feel 10 times better! Can you make some of those potatoes again? I love your potatoes."
"I can add a cheesecake too," she shook Raya's hands. They were cheering and carrying on until I put an end to it.
"Aw naw. I been slacking on you because I know you going through some stuff, but you not about to gain 50 pounds before you get off them crutches Raya Simone," I spoke with some authority. Both my mom and Raya turned to look at me with their lips curled in nothing but attitude. My mom was the first to say something as she placed her hands on her hip.

"Excuse me? Boy , you mind the business that pays you and that's Fit Life

"Excuse me? Boy , you mind the business that pays you and that's Fit Life. Mama J got this over here. Now 50 pounds that," she walked off all the while snatching my keys out my hand leaving me standing there dumbfounded. Raya was killing herself laughing at how I was looking.
"Guess she told you."
"Oh word," I asked getting ready to be petty. "Well you get your new best friend to help you to the car then."
"Chris don't play with me", she squinted. I flipped her off.
"See ya later sucka," I stucked my tongue out all the way with my fingers still in the air. I started running away from her slowly and boy she was cussing me out something serious.
"Ima knock the mario coins out yo ass as soon i get my hands on you," was the last thing I heard before I got out the door.
