"I figured it out, I can't believe i was so stupid before!" I shouted
"What is it ?" Daniel asked
"Well when my great grandparents met it was under the moon and stars at some place and they instantly fell in love. Then my nan and grandad met and fell in love on the day of the first moon landing and finally my parents got together when there was a total eclipse." I stated
"What does that have to do with it" Daniel asked
"Well the secret to the box is that the moon represents love and I'm guessing my great grandparents wanted me to have it so that when I fall in love it would be there and the moon would be involved" I explained
"Wow that's so cool, but I think there is another part to it" Daniel said
" and what would that be?" I asked
"Well maybe after you find the person your meant to love the secret compartment in the box will become visible to you." Daniel said
" I really like that idea, I hope to work it out one day" I sighed with a sad look on my face as I wanted Daniel to be the one I was meant to be with but the compartment still isn't obvious to me so it's clearly not meant to be.
"Hey why are you so sad" Daniel asked softly
I thought for a second about telling him the real reason why or lying. There are many consequences to telling the truth like what If i ruin our friendship, what if he doesn't feel the same and what if thinks its too soon as we only met today. It just feels so right and I don't know why. I'm doing it.
"Well I'm going to be honest with you and please don't be put off I get if you don't feel the same. But I'm upset as I really ... want the person I'm meant to love and be with to be you but its stupid because we just met today. It's sad because the secret to the box still isn't obvious to me meaning its not you and I just" I started to cry
Daniel came closer and wrapped his arms around me so I leant my head on his chest and continued to cry.
"Hey its ok, I appreciate you being honest because I feel the same way, I don't know what it is but it just feels right. You know there could be nothing Else to the box and all it was just discovering the pattern." Daniel said
"You really like me that way" i sniffled
"Of course how could I not, your beautiful, kind and not to mention your accent is amazing. So I have to ask will you y/n go on a date with me? He asked
"I would love to" I said with a giant smile
We talked a bit more and planned our date. After we had talked for a while I was starting to get hungry so I asked Daniel if he wanted anything and he said he could make us mac and cheese which I had never had (I have never had mac and cheese in real life btw). We got up to go to the kitchen and as we did I grabbed the box to put it back because I didn't care what a stupid box said I wanted to be with Daniel.
Just as I was about to put it down I noticed a crack through the middle of the moon on the front. I quickly took it with me to the kitchen and placed it on the counter which caught daniel's Attention.
"What is going on?" He asked puzzled
"There is a crack through the moon that wasn't there earlier" I squealed with joy Daniel came rushing over to my side to see me open it.
I cautiously pushed the two sides apart to reveal theses two necklace chains with keys on the bottom and a piece of paper which i assumed was a note.
"Should i read it I'm kind of scared" i said
" do it you will be fine I'm right here"
"Ok" i began to read out loud
To our lovely great grandchild, when you get to read this we hope you have found the love of your life I assume you know the odd coincidence in this family and the moon well it has been happening for as long as I remember. I really hope seeing this you have already realised your love for the person you are with no matter how long you have known them love is love and time doesn't matter nor will it wait for you to be ready.
I want you to read this part to your lover as it's important for them to know. I don't care how bad things get and they can get bad but I have no doubt that my great grand child will still love you to no end so don't let them down or make them suffer. I'm sure you are fully in love too which is how it should be. I would also like to warn you that this family is weird but so very loving and excepting.
Anyway back on track, you are probably wondering the point of the necklaces well they are to symbolise unity an that you are locked together forever. They also open the heart shaped box you should own which contains locks which also attach to the necklaces to create a set. Enjoy your life together I'm glad you found the one. It saddens me that I will never meet them but I will be watching over you. Love grandma Jane and grandpa jo.
I started to cry again realising that this really was it and that Jane and jo never got to meet Daniel but I know they are with me in this moment.
I looked to Daniel who was in shock, he also had tears in his eyes. We looked at each other before leaning in . Our lips touched for the first time, I felt amazing there was so much energy going through my body. We soon pulled away but Daniel still held me close. We stared into each other's eyes for a while until I took his hand and led him to the hear shaped box with the keys in hand.
We both took the key in our hands and opened it together, as the letter said it revealed two gold locks. I picked them up and instantly dropped them again after seeing that they had engraving of the (first letter of your name) and a D for Daniel. It was as if they knew all along.
1 and a half years later
Me and Daniel have been together ever since that night and have been so happy. We just found out i was pregnant and we are so excited to start our own family to pass the tradition onto.
