Stay Alive

Aubri.

A dull ache in my temple brings me crashing back into consciousness. I don't know where I am, but all my body keeps screaming is for me to stay absolutely still. I'm getting jostled as a female voice curses potholes and I realize I'm in a car.

"I'm so sorry baby. Mommy didn't mean to hit a pothole," she coos and I fight the urge not to recoil in horror as my baby kicks to the familiar voice. Peeking an eye open, I note that she's driving alone, singing along to the radio. The pressure on my wrists and ankles clue me in that I'm tied up.

Shit.

I can barely make out the front window, dismayed that the rain has basically blocked any chance at me seeing a street sign and knowing where I am. Sophia is tapping her nails on the steering wheel as she sings along to a song that I haven't heard before.

She reaches back and places a hand on my stomach and I flinch, holding my breath until she removes her hand. She settles back om driving before she starts talking to my baby again.

"I'm going to show you the hospital that patched your whore of a mother back together instead of sending her back home to Theo. Such a shame you won't meet Theo or Dave. They were pieces of work, but still your uncles." she says easily, alternating between driving with both hands or placing a hand on my stomach.

Each kick my baby rewarding her with further driving me up a wall while being forced to stay still.

"I'm sorry I had to kill Theo. Liv took it really hard," she starts up again and my mouth runs dry at her unknowing admission.

"Though, Liv seems to have found a new flavor to immerse herself in. Haven't heard much from her," Sophia muses. "My sister isn't the brightest you know, I had been sleeping with Theo for years under her nose and she never put it together- oh look, here's the hospital baby!"

Pulling into the parking lot, my heart drops. The same hospital that saved my life all those months ago is the same hospital i'm going to die in.

Sophia turns off the engine and walks around to the trunk of the car. Coming back in a doctor's coat and medical supplies around her neck, I screw my eyes shut as she opens my door, the cold, wet air instantly seeping into my bones and making me shudder despite my best efforts not to move.

"No use pretending bitch. I know you're awake." She says flatly, yanking me by the hair. Holding a scalpel to my neck, she growls. "Scream and I kill you. I can always take the baby after."

Struggling against the sharp blade pressing into my neck, I nod slightly. I have to survive.

I have to save my baby.
