Aubri.
The last thing I remember was feeling relief mixed with sickness as I fell into a familiar pair of arms. Then, I remember nothing. Absolutely nothing.
Sitting in a gray space where I’m the only occupant.
What is this incessant beeping? Dull lighting mixed with light from what I guess is outside is assaulting my eyes.
When did it get so bright? I think to myself as I attempt to raise my hand to cover my eyes, frowning as my movements are hindered.
I want to open my eyes but I can’t. My eyes feel like they have been glued shut.
“Aubri, can you hear me? We need you to flutter your eyelids if you can’t open your eyes just yet,” an unfamiliar voice soothingly speaks to me.
A doctor maybe?
A hand grasps mine and I can feel small circles being made on my hands and my fingers flinch.
“She can hear us.”
Liam.
He sounds so relieved. My mind is so foggy that I can barely remember what happened last night. Blotchy memories of going out with Liam and going to the bathroom scroll past my mind in a slowed slide show.
A cold icy feeling creeps up my arm as my memory of last night settles on Dave, smiling at me with that sickening smile that I know all too well with him. My breathing picks up as I struggle to free my hand and open my eyes. A chair pushes back and the mattress next to me sinks down as I’m suddenly surrounded by Liam’s scent.
Wrapping his arms around me, my eyes fly open, looking everywhere and nowhere all at the same time before settling on him. He looks just as worried as I feel.
“Da-Dave. He hurt me.” I stammer out, my throat feeling while it was stuffed with wool.
“Sh-sh. I know. We’re going to make sure he’s caught.” Liam says, eyes narrowing at the end of his thought. “You basically fell over just as he was breezing out and you were my first priority. I’m sorry.”
“Don’t apologize, with the way I’m feeling now… I don’t think that I would have made it through the night if you guys didn’t get to me when you did. Just lay here with me. We will deal with him later.” I croak out.
Reaching over me to the small nightstand next to my hospital bed, Liam picks up a cup and a water pitcher and pours some out for me. Helping me to sit up, he gently presses the cup to my lips and I gulp greedily, the water feeling like heaven going down my throat after a long drought. Pouring another cupful, I gulp that down also before settling back on Liam’s chest.
Playing with the ends of my hair, Liam sighs. “You straightened your hair and I didn’t even really get to appreciate it before everything.”
Using my free hand to take some of my hair into my hand, I smirk at the ends curled in my fingers.
Well guess that was fun while it lasted.
“It may have sprinkled a bit when we were getting you into the ambulance,” Liam offers sheepishly.
“Look who’s awake,” a large teddy bear pokes its head in the door, followed by Harry, Chris and Niall.
“So cheesy,” I laugh as I reach out for my new bear and snuggle against it, to Liam’s fake protests of being excluded. Smoothing my hair down, he tucks a strand of hair behind my ear and visibly flushes as he looks up and sees the guys smirking at him.
“She likes the flyaway pieces behind her ear,” he continues, getting redder and redder as they laugh now.
“Could you two be anymore cutesy? All this sugar is going to give me diabetes.” Harry fake grimaces before plopping down at the foot of the bed. “How are you feeling?”
