For the next few days, Odette and Joan would accompany Edward and Oswald to events. They would go to parades, feed the homeless and ribbon-cutting ceremonies. Through it all the twins noticed Butch's annoyance with Oswald's preference of Edward. Today they will be attending a ceremony in honor of Oswald's mother, where he would show the statue he had made of her.
"My mother was the daughter of immigrants. A humble cook. We did not have much, but when she was by my side, I felt loved. Protected. As promised, I have rid Gotham of its villainous monsters. With my mother as my witness, I vow to you from this day forward, every man, woman, and child in our great city will be safe!"
They all applauded when the speech ended, but the cheering was interrupted when some men in the red mask started shooting. Everyone crouched down to avoid being shot.
"No one safe. Not from us.", one of the red hooded men said.
The twins distance themselves farther from the men.
"Drop it." The men point their guns at Butch who had his gun up, "I said drop it."
That time Butch dropped the gun. The group of red-hooded men then start shooting at the statue, one of the men uses a hammer to knock its head off. Leaving everyone shocked.
"You will pay for this! Dearly!", Oswald says furiously.
"Now, now, Mr. Mayor. Don't go losing your head."
They throw a smoke bomb.
"Have a nice day.", they say as they leave.
The Red Hoods' capture or more so, death, was now a top priority. Oswald was having a meeting with 'constituents' and Edward was the liaison of the investigation and was going over to the GCPD. Meanwhile, the twins were to stay out of it, which was Joan's idea. Though no one really cared, since to their eyes they can't really contribute much.
Joan didn't mind being left out, preferring her sister to be safe. Odette, on the other hand, felt offended that they wouldn't include them. Odette angrily paced around her room as she vented to Joan.
"I wish they didn't underestimate me. I could be very useful."
"Odette, the only thing useful about us is our father's name. You've got to admit that. We're safer away."
"We were in Arkham since we were twelve, I think we can handle ourselves."
"No we can't, you know we can't."
"Don't do that.", she said as she rolled her eyes.
"Do what?"
"Talk like it's about the both of us when it's just about me."
"It's not just about you."
Odette scoffs
"Yes, it is. I'm the fragile one, I'm the weak one, I'm the little flower that needs to be lulled to sleep and always needs someone to hold her hand." Odette hangs her head down as she slumps down to her bed, saddened and ashamed.
