Things were going great for the twins, they were adjusting into their new lives. Recently Oswald had confided to Joan his feelings for Edward. She being a good friend, fully support him and told him to tell Edward. Though she knew that her sister also had feelings for him, she hoped it would help her move on from her silly crush. Today they would be accompanying Oswald and Edward to a K-12 school. They were barely in the third-grade class when they were already tired of being there.
"This is our third-grade class.", the lady said, presenting the children who sat and painted.
"How many more grades do we have to visit?", Oswald whispered to Edward.
"This is a K through 12 building."
"Twelve?"
"Mhmm."
"We don't have to see every class, do we?", he as he pretended to smile.
"Mayor James used to read to the children.", the lady said cheerily.
"Aubrey James is illiterate, ma'am. It's well documented."
"Perhaps we should move on.", Edward suggested.
Before continuing Oswald pointed over to a boy who sat alone
"What's wrong with that boy there?"
"That's Luke. He's new here."
Oswald walked over to the boy. And as he talked to him, the twins looked around the room. Memories of their time in school coming to them.
"Hi, do you want to play?", a young Odette asks one of her classmates.
"Sure. I like your necklace.", she said, staring at the pearl necklace around Odette's neck.
"Thank you. I like your dress. I'm Odette Coldwell by the way."
"Jennifer Clements. So can I have it?"
"My necklace? No, my gran got it for me."
"Give it to me.", she wined.
"No."
Her classmate pushes her unto the floor.
"Hey, leave her alone!", a young Joan says pushing the girl back.
The girl starts crying and an older kid comes, and hits Joan.
"That's my cousin you brat."
"Well tell your cousin to back off from my sister.", Joan says facing the bully.
"It's you who needs to stay away, two colored eyed freak. You might be contagious." He pushes Joan to the floor.
"Hey don't be mean.", Odette stands up.
"Look, there's two of them! Stay away! They might turn us into freaks too."
"I want her necklace!", the girl whined, pointing at Odette's necklace.
"You heard her, freak! Give her your necklace or we'll take it."
"No!"
The boy and his friends grab her. Joan tries to push them off her but they punch her. They steal Odette's necklace and runoff, laughing.
That was their first day of school.
One of the most memorable ones was in third grade. Though Odette's memories are spotty.
It was lunchtime, Joan and Odette usually sat alone or with a few peers. Odette sat and ate, Joan still at the line.
"Look at the little princess, seating all alone, thinking she's SO much better than us." Jennifer and her possy walk over to her.
"Go away."
"Oh, I'm so scared. What you think because you're so rich you can boss me around? You and your sister are nothing but weird eyed freaks."
"At least we're not dimwit bullies."
Ooos were heard from kids around them.
"You know what guys? I think it's time we put the little princess in her place."
Her possy grab Odette. She struggles to break free as they move her towards a trash bin. It was big enough to fit three of her.
"Let go of me. Let me go!", she said as she tried to pull away from them.
"It's time to learn where freaks like you truly belong. Dump her in!"
They throw Odette into the trash, some of it getting in her mouth. They proceed to dump their lunches over her.
"See, she's the princess of trash! Now, stay in your trash kingdom freak!", she and her friends laugh.
That's when Joan comes over and throws her lunch on Jessica.
"It's you who belongs there, you twat.", she says as she pushes her onto the floor.
She punches her in the face before most of Jennifer's friends, who were much bigger than her, grabbed her and started beating her up. She fought back, but it was useless against all of them.
"Maybe if we beat you enough you're eye will become normal. Or at least we won't be able to see it anymore."
By the time a teacher came, she was practically knocked out.
That was their last year, then they became homeschooled. After that day they became quieter, Odette started wearing gloves every time they went outside or in the kitchen and couldn't even see food without wanting to puke, Joan became more reserved and protective over Odette.
