Reine couldn't believe she was still helping with this whole Court of Owls situation. Even after the leader and the braces man were killed by the Court. Ivy wasn't in danger anymore either. So why the hell was she still part of this?
Well, maybe it was because she missed Cat. Maybe that's the whole reason she went with Ivy to see Cat in the first place. Maybe she was just extremely desperate to spend time with her again, to just be around her again, to be able to call her Kitty again without feeling like she doesn't deserve it. Maybe.
Still, she stood on top of a building, in front of the place they're supposed to steal from. As Jacob explained the plan.
"The Court of Owls maintains a number of buildings in Gotham. This one is rarely occupied and always well guarded, and there are two alarms. The first covers points of entry. Last week, we managed to disarm one of the windows. Once inside, the front door can be opened using a code that we possess. The second alarm is in the basement. In the room with the safe. The floor is fitted with infrared sensors. You must cross it on a rope."
Reine had lost interest in the conversation a long time ago. Deciding instead to try to talk to Cat.
"Listen, I've been meaning to call you."
"Yeah, well you didn't. Not my problem."
"Look, I just don't want you to think the only reason I came was just, because, Ivy got herself in trouble. It was more of an excuse than anything else really."
"I don't care. It doesn't change the fact that all this time, you've been with Ivy and didn't even bother telling me."
"She told me not to. And what else can I say? I'm a sucker for redheads. Doesn't change the fact that I've missed you?"
"I don't want to hear it, Reine."
Bruce walks over to Selina
"What'd you decide?"
"We're gonna break in today. We can't wait any longer. You okay?"
"Fine. Just hungry."
They went back to the manor. There they sat and watched Bruce practicing walking on a rope. Until Selina gets frustrated and decides to leave. Reine is already at the door, ready to leave.
"I take it you're off?", Alfred stops her in her tracks.
"When we were casing the place, I got a feeling we were being watched. And if this Court of Owls is all you say, they're not gonna be too cool with Bruce breaking their deal."
"That's very true. And Master Bruce knows the Court will catch with him sooner or later. And if he has the opportunity to take them out, then he'll take them out."
"That's a big if. Especially when your stupid job is supposed to be protecting him."
Reine decides to wait for her outside until she was done with this conversation. Part of her tells her to leave already, to drown herself in drugs and alcohol, and forget about these past days with Selina and go back to how things were. She ignores that part though, being over all that avoiding Selina crap and instead ready to give it a shot at rekindling what they once had, it couldn't possibly get worse.
When Selina gets out, Reine follows her into the city. After a while of following behind her, Selina turns around and pushes her. And though it's hard, Reine stays put.
"Would you stop that!"
"I guess it's just out of habit. I miss being partners in crime, the two of us against all those assholes, I'd call you Kitty-cat and you let me."
"Well, it was your choice to leave."
"I know. That's what I wanted to talk about.", she takes step towards her.
"You and I have nothing left to talk about."
Selina goes to leave, but Reine grabs her hand to stop her.
"Just listen then, and afterward you can punch me in the face if you want."
"If I say yes will you stop following me?"
"If not seeing me again is what you want, then fine."
Reine lets go of her hand, which she hadn't been holding onto with any strength.
"Go on then. I don't have all day."
"I know I messed up with just leaving a letter, and not really explaining why I was leaving. I'm sorry. That was a dick move. But the thing is, I couldn't, I couldn't face you. That's why I've been avoiding you for so long. I couldn't face keeping things from you, but I couldn't tell you either. And I still can't.
There is so much, you don't know about me. I'm a freak, I'm insane. I'm this uncontrollable mess. And I can accept that. What I can't accept is if I ever hurt you by not being able to control myself. I don't like being away from you, you were the first friend I've made here, but if that's what will keep you safe then I'll do it.
Because I care about you too much, Kitty-cat. And it sucks because I also miss you like all the time and I want to be with you, and I hate it when I'm not. So whatever I choose, I end up hating myself. So it's like this fucking cycle I can't escape. But at the end of the day, I just want to know that you're okay and that you know how much I care about you and how much I miss all the fucking time."
Reine takes a breath.
"There. That's all I had to say. I'll leave now, I won't bother you ever again."
Reine left quickly. What she didn't know was that Selina was about to stop her, but was too late.
