Tonight Oswald is going to confess his feelings to Edward. So Joan was planning a night with her sister, to give Oswald privacy and to lessen the blow when Odette finds out. She went out to buy some essentials. With a certain assassin coming along, Victor Zsasz. Though he wasn't thrilled about having to take care of this girl. And Joan wasn't so thrilled about having him come along either.
"Okay so first stop is the candy shop, then I want to buy a few board games and books, so a toy shop, and I also want to get a few movies-"
"Seriously? I can't believe I'm stuck in babysitting duty.", Zsasz grumbled.
"Hey, you don't have to be here if you don't want to. I can manage to be on my own." Joan rolled her eyes.
"Yeah, sure, and do you even know the address for the manor?"
"N-no, but-"
"Do you know where to go to get all this stuff you need?"
"No, but-"
"Enough said then."
"Yeah well, Mr. Grumpypants, I could easily ask someone or call the manor. I'm very quick on my feet."
"Whatever, let's just hurry to get this done. I have things to do."
"Oh really? Like what?"
"Assassin stuff."
"Assassin stuff? I'd imagine anything you do is 'assassin stuff', you know cause you are one."
"Well, I also have a life outside of work believe it or not."
"I honestly did think you didn't but I suppose you have a point. I suppose we should just get through with this.", Joan said, dragging him along.
Getting all the stuff with Zsasz ended up not being as unpleasant as Joan thought it would be. The same could be said for Victor. It had actually been a bit fun. Joan had even forgotten about Odette for a bit, which was new but relaxing.
"Thanks for helping me out today. I suppose I probably would've been hella lost without you. And spending time with a crazy assassin wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.", she said as she carried all the stuff into the manor.
"Well babysitting a rich brat wasn't as bad as I thought it would either. Thanks for the candy by the way.", Zsasz says helping her out with some of the bags.
"Well kinda felt bad for buying all that candy and not sharing with you. Maybe you can take me out to buy more food again until I get used to the city of course. It'll be my treat, after all, I am the rich brat.", she says as they reach her room.
"Sure, I'll check my schedule, I do have assassin stuff to do. But I'll tell you when I'm free."
Joan smiled, happy that he accepted her offer.
"Can't wait."
She opens the door and they both put down the bags on her bed.
"Good luck with your sister, I bet she isn't as easy to babysit."
"Oh believe me she's not. But just like assassin stuff is your job, sister stuff is mine."
"Well, I'll let you girls do whatever it is you do in slumber parties."
"Thanks, again.", she calls out as he closes the door.
She looks at the many bags and her seemly clean room and with a sigh, she gets everything ready for tonight, the snacks, the games, and the movies. Then she goes and gets Odette.
"So, what did you want to show me?"
"Come on. You'll love it, I know it."
She opens the door to her room to show her. The floor was covered with blankets and pillows, there were bags filled with candy and popcorn, movies, magazines, and board games were placed neatly on the floor.
"I also got a bottle of cognac under my bed for later."
"This is amazing, but why exactly are we doing this?"
"Well, even though our birthday already passed we should celebrate. It's going to be like a sleepover. I remember how much you wanted one."
"Is it really a sleepover if you're my sister and you live in the same place as me?"
"Well, for tonight let's pretend. Let's pretend you're not my sister and you're coming over for a sleepover. Cool?"
After looking around the room once more, Odette let out a smile.
"Alright. I'll just get ready and be right back.", she skips happily to her room.
Joan takes a shower and puts on her pajamas. A few minutes after she's done getting ready, a knock is heard on her door. She opens it and a giddy Odette hurries in, giggling. She was wearing her nightgown, she carried one of her dolls, a teddy bear, and a bag with grooming essentials.
"Okay, so what do we do first."
"It's all up to you. There are board games, movies, magazines, Zsasz helped me get them at the teen section. You can also choose some music to listen to. I also think they do each other's hair in sleepovers, and pillow fights are a must."
"Let's leave the movies for last. How about we do the hair thing first while reading magazines and then the games."
"Cool, let put some music on first then."
That night was one of the twins' favorite. They loved doing each other's hair, pillow fighting, looking through the magazines, making a fort, but their favorite was watching movies as they stuffed themselves with sweets. In the end, they fell asleep very late, as a movie continued playing. The light from the tv is the only thing that lit the room. They slept in their pillow fort, kernels, and candy all over their blanket, leaning against each other. They were like adorable kids who came back from running in the park.
The next morning they found Oswald panicking over the fact that Edward hasn't come home all night. Odette started panicking as well. Oswald was even calling the police.
"I understand that one is expected to wait twenty-four hours before filing a missing persons report, but, sir I am the mayor."
"Oswald.", Edward says coming in.
Oswald drops the phone and hugs Edward. Joan meanwhile takes care of the cop from the phone.
"When you didn't come home, I assumed the worst. I am so glad you're okay."
"I'm better than okay. I met someone. I think I'm in love."
And just like that Joan witnessed two people's hearts break.
