July 15th - 14 Weeks
Rebecca got off the plane in Dublin with Colby following closely behind her, he was dragging his feet as he grabbed their luggage, dragging his feet to the rental car counter. He didn't want to do this.
"We can just get on a plane and go back home" he said and Rebecca shook her head
"I am home" Rebeca laughed and he rolled his eyes
"Well fine, You can stay here and I'll go home" he said as she was handed the keys to the rental car and she thanked the woman behind the counter and she shook her head and grabbed his arm, pulling him towards their carThe drive to Annette's house was thirty minutes and unlike last time the mother knew her daughter was coming home this time.
"I feel like I'm gonna throw up" Colby said from the passenger seat and Rebecca looked over at him with a small smile
"It will be fine" she nodded
"Easy for you to say, they are your family.. of course they'll be fine with you.. but me?" he pointed to himself "They are going to hate me"
"No they won't" she shook her head
"If your Dad kills me.." he shook his head and she laughed
"Will you relax? My dad is not going to kill you" she shook her head "It's my mom that you need to worry about" she said and the look on his face was priceless "I'm joking" she said placing a hand on his cheek
"Very funny" he glared over at her "I'm serious though.. I don't want to do this" he shook his head
"I came with you to tell your mom" she said
"Yes" he nodded "but the difference is she didn't know, your mom and family know everything.. they are going to be judging me from the second I step foot in the door"
"Probably" she shrugged
"Not helping Rebecca" he shook his head
"You're gonna be fine, don't worry I'll protect you" she laughed and he shook his head at herThey arrived at Annette's home after driving for twenty more minutes. Rebecca was the first in the house and hugging her mother while Colby walked into the house slowly and took in the house in front of him, there was a staircase as soon as you walked in the front door, a sitting room to the left, dining room to the right and the kitchen was past the stairs.
It was a beautiful home, Rebecca took great pride in being able to buy the home fully for her mother a few years prior so she wouldn't have to worry about renting it any longer.
"Mom" Rebecca said "You've met Colby before" she motioned to Colby and Annette nodded as she stared at him
"It's nice to meet you again Annette" Colby said
"You as well" Annette nodded "Just wish it was under different circumstances" she said and Rebecca's eyes widened, she wanted to yell but she let it goRebecca helped her mother with dinner as her brother, Richard arrived and then her father Ken showed up a thirty minutes later, leaving Colby to sit in awkward silence with them in the living room.
As they ate dinner, it was silent around the dining room table, It was awkwardly silent. Rebecca looked over at her brother who was staring a hole through the man sitting next to her, her father was not looking up from his plate and her mother looked between her daughter and Colby every few seconds.
"Well dinner is good mom" Rebecca spoke up quietly and Annette smiled at her daughter
"Thank you dear" Annette said
"Can we please address the elephant in the room" Richard spoke up and Rebecca looked over at her brother
"What?" Rebecca questioned and he rolled his eyes
"Seriously? What? You tell us what's up, what is your plan?" he asked looking between Colby and his sister
"What do you mean?" she asked "I'm having a baby"
"Cut the mushy shit Rebecca" he said
"Richard!" Annette scolded her son and Rebecca could feel Colby tense up beside her
"What? It's true! She's acting like she's just gonna have a baby and she's gonna be fine, nothing is going to change in her life" he said and Rebecca felt herself growing angrier with each word he spoke
"You don't think I know how much my life is going to change?" she questioned in a whisper and Colby looked over at her "How much my life has already changed?" she asked "I know this isn't going to be easy, I know this is going to be fucking hard but you know me better than anyone, when I want to do something I put everything I have into it and I'm not going to fail at this, I'm not going to let this kid suffer"
"So you having a kid, and going back to work where both of your attentions are split and you can't parent them 100% is a good idea?" he asked
"We're parents first" she said
"Really?" he asked "Where was he three weeks ago when you were here crying to mom every night?"
"Don't blame him" she shook her head
"Alright you two that's enough" Ken spoke up "Obviously none of us are absolutely thrilled at this situation but We're in it and we are just going to have to get used to it and get through it"
"No" Rebecca shook her head as she stood up "We are going through this" she motioned to herself and Colby "This is inconvenient for you three, it's ruining all of your plans I get that, Rich was supposed to be the one to give you the first grandchild and that just went out the window, but I'm not going to sit here and listen to you guys talking about this baby like it's some kind of mistake that you have to learn to live with.. newsflash, you don't see me very often anymore except for when I come home so don't you three worry, We will worry about raising this kid to the best of our abilities and you three can just act like nothing is happening"She walked away from the table and left Colby sitting there as the three family members stared and him and he heard the door slam upstairs and he stood up and began walking towards the stairs
"Colby" Annette said and he turned to face her "Get your things" she said "I don't think it's best for you to stay here tonight, I have a feeling there is going to be a lot more fireworks tonight" she said and Colby shook his head
"We'll be out soon" he said
"Rebecca is staying here" Ken said
"You can't decide that, she's a grown adult, she can do what she wants"
"This doesn't concern you" her father said with a shake of his head
"With all due respect, This involves my kid, and as long as she is carrying my kid everything she does concerns me"
"Why don't you just leave her alone?" Richard asked
"Because I love her" he said without hesitation "I love your daughter" he looked between Annette and Ken "I love your sister" he looked to Richard "We've been friends for years and something in this world thought we needed each other, even when we didn't know it" he shrugged "She's my best friend and now she is the mother of my child and if I'm lucky enough, someday in the near future she's gonna be my wife"
"You're planning on marrying my sister?!" Richard exclaimed and Colby nodded
"She's my future"
