Colby walked into his home after his long day of finishing up paperwork at the academy and going over business at the coffee shop with the managers. He walked into the house to hear frozen on in the living room and Rebecca and Ella yelling in the kitchen, he smiled when he heard the two girls and shook his head as he walked towards the argument.

"No!" Ella yelled "You're supposed to be holding the roof!" she said
"I was holding the roof! You're horrible with the frosting" Rebecca said and he saw the girls staring at what was supposed to be a gingerbread house that was in a pile on the table
"You two suck as construction workers.. you do know the house is supposed to be standing right?" he questioned and the two girls looked over at him with identical glares before Ella jumped down from the chair and walked past him quickly and stomped up the stairs
"What's her problem?" he asked Rebecca and her eyes widened
"What's her problem?" she questioned
"Yeah.. why does she look like she's about to murder me?" he asked "and why do you look the same way?"
"Seriously?" she questioned "Are you serious right now?"
"If I knew what I did I wouldn't be asking" he shook his head
"You missed her recital!" She yelled and his eyes widened as he shook his head
"No I didn't" he said "It's the 24th" he said
"No Colby" she shook her head "It was today.. the 17th.. we've known this for months, we both said no to work things this week so we could be here.. I even asked you this morning when we stopped by the gym if you were meeting us there.. You said yes"
"I thought you meant next week not today" he shook his head "Why didn't you call me?" he asked
"I tried!" she yelled "I called you seven times! Your mom called you another four.. you answered none of us" she folded her arms across her chest
"Damn it" he said as he leaned against the counter and shook his head "I fucked up" he said
"Yeah" she nodded "Ya think?" she asked and he looked up at her "She was in tears when she got off stage and realized you weren't there"
"Not helping" he shook his head
"I'm sorry" she shrugged "but you broke her heart.. and seeing you walk in here like nothing was wrong, just hurt her all over again" she walked past him and up the stairs to check on her daughter

After 30 minutes Rebecca finally had Ella calmed down, the tears were gone but it was clear in her little tear stained face that she was still hurt.

Colby knocked on the door to his little girl's room and opened it slowly, seeing Rebecca laying on the bed with Ella curled up into her chest as she played games on her iPad.
"Ella.." he said quietly and the little girl looked up at him and then back to her game, ignoring him and he looked to Rebecca "Can we talk?" he asked and the little girl shook her head, she was giving him the silent treatment "Come on.. please" he begged and Ella looked to her mother
"It's up to you" Rebecca said and Ella shook her head once again "She doesn't want to talk to you" Rebecca looked up at him and he nodded
"That's fine" he said and sat on the floor "because I'm gonna sit right here until she will talk to me" he said

Rebecca knew all too well that Colby was stubborn, but she knew her daughter was just as stubborn as him.. if not more, they may be in for a long standoff.

Two hours passed before Rebecca stood up and Ella looked up at her
"I'm going to go shower.. you two stare at each other, talk.. whatever you want" she said kissing her daughter's head before leaving the room and hoping that somebody would cave in the time she was gone

Ten minutes later.. Colby spoke up, he knew he wasn't going to get anywhere.

"Alright fine" he said "You don't have to talk to me but you do have to listen" he said and Ella rolled her eyes as she folded her arms across her chest with a huff "I'm sorry" he apologized "I know I messed up" he nodded "and I'm sorry for that, I don't know what else to say besides I'm sorry.. I honestly thought it was next week" he said
"We told you" Ella spoke up for the first time in hours "We told you today.. and I told you everyday last week" she said
"I know" he nodded "but like I said, I forgot" he said
"That's not an excuse" she shook her little head
"I know that" he nodded
"You hurt me" she said and the tears began to form in her little eyes again "You promised me that no boy would ever hurt me.. and you did" she sniffled and he shook his head
"I liked this better when you were ignoring me" he said "What can I do to fix this?" he asked and the little girl shrugged
"I don't know Dad" she said and his eyes widened as she jumped off the bed
"Dad?" he questioned "You've never called me that before" he shook his head "I've always been Daddy to you"
"You lost that name hours ago" she said walking out of the room and leaving him sitting there alone
