December 13th - 35 Weeks
Colby was on the road, in Connecticut for meetings at the offices before the live events that weekend. He was traveling with Joe this weekend which was a nice change for him and he was enjoying it from what Rebecca was hearing almost everyday.
Meanwhile Rebecca woke up at 1 in the morning to the same feeling she had 5 weeks prior, but this time it was more intense. She knew what contractions felt like because of that incident and she knew to look for a pattern and it didn't take her long to realize there was one.
Every 10 minutes, they lasted 45 seconds and they were radiating into her back which was new.
"Why do you insist on doing this every time your dad isn't home?" she asked the baby, fully aware she wasn't going to get an actual response but she got a response in the form of another contraction
She managed to make her way to the shower, thinking the water would help calm things down.. bad idea.. very very bad idea.
The contractions were now coming every 8 minutes, they were getting closer together
"You are not going to be born in December" she shook her head "I'm not having you this close to Christmas" she said sternly as she got out of the shower and got changed into sweats
Eight minutes later.. As she walked down the stairs towards the kitchen a contraction started again and she had to hold onto the wall to hold herself up
"Ella" she cried "No" she shook her head "We are not doing this" she shook her head and as soon as she said that she felt a gush and looked down.. her water broke and her eyes widened "Is this how we're going to start this relationship? You're just not going to listen to me ever" she asked
"Rebecca" she heard the voice coming down the stairs and she turned to see Holly, she had completely forgotten that she was there, Holly had been staying with her while Colby was gone which was the only way he left the house lately
"Um" she looked up at her "I'm pretty sure my water just broke" she said
"What is pretty sure?" Holly questioned as she walked down the stairs
"Well I'm pretty sure I am standing in a puddle and it is still coming out of me" she said and Holly nodded
"Okay, are you having contractions?" she asked and Rebecca nodded
"Every eight minutes" she informed and Holly nodded once more
"Alright, well.. its time to go.. we need to go" she said and Rebecca could see the smile on Holly's face even in the dark and Rebecca nodded
Meanwhile with Colby he was fast asleep, oblivious to the whole situation. His phone began to ring and he hit ignore before turning his head over again and going back to sleep, a few seconds later it rang again and once again he hit ignore and then it rang again
"Colby answer your phone" Joe said from the other bed "before I answer it for you and whoever is on the other line is not going to like me" he said and Colby grabbed his phone from the nightstand and pressed accept
"Hello?" he answered still half asleep
"Colby" Rebecca's voice was on the other end and that was enough to wake him up completely
"Rebecca" he said as he sat up and Joe sat up now as well and turned the light on
"Your mom is taking me to the hospital.. I thought it was like last time and we would be able to stop it but we can't" she said
"Why not? Tell her no" he said and Joe rolled his eyes
"I tried that" Rebecca stated "but she has other plans" she said "My water broke Colby, this is happening"
"It's December!" he exclaimed and she could hear the panic in his voice
"Yeah I got that" she said and he heard a sharp intake of breath and then he heard his mother in the background telling her to breathe "Are you okay?" he asked
"Not now Lopez" she said and he looked to Joe with wide eyes and he just smiled at his friend
"I'm on my way okay?" he questioned "I will be there as soon as I can"
"Okay" Rebecca let out a shaky breath
"Don't have her without me" he said
"I'll try" she said in a whisper
He hung up the phone and threw it on the bed, he wasn't sure what to do, his mind was racing but not with any thoughts that would be able to tell him what he was supposed to do in this situation.
"Holy shit" he said and Joe nodded "her water broke" he said and Joe nodded once more
"Anything else you want to say?" Joe asked
"Fuck" he said and Joe laughed as he placed a hand on his friend's shoulder
"Good" he nodded "Those are good words" he said "You're going to be a dad in a few hours"
"What do I do?" Colby questioned
"First of all, breathe" he said and he watched his friend take a deep breath "We are going to get you on a plane and then you are going to go to Rebecca and you're going to be supportive and do whatever she asks you.. You're going to have a beautiful baby girl"
"I am" Colby nodded and his phone began to ring again and he saw Ashley's name pop up
"Yes Ash?" he answered
"Ella's coming!" she yelled and he smiled as he shook his head
"Ella's coming" he repeated and he felt the emotions come back, his daughter was going to be in his arms soon
