Things escalated quickly. We were just about to eat when Logan suddenly appeared. I don't even know how he did it—he was just there, looking at me, his gaze shifting to the twins.
"I didn't know you had kids," he said, staring blankly at me.
I froze, unsure how to react. Naramdaman ko ang biglang paghigpit ng hawak ni Lexus sa akin. God, he's too young for this.
"I'm... I'm their nanny. So, uh, can you excuse us?" I replied, avoiding his intense gaze.
"Nanny, huh?" He didn't press further, but I didn't stick around to say goodbye either. I grabbed Lexus' hand and hurried away.
It was terrifying. I finally let out a sigh of relief as we reached the mall exit.
"Mama, why are we walking so fast?" Lexi's voice brought me back to reality. How was I supposed to explain this to my little princess?
"Is he a bad guy?" she added, making me stop in my tracks. I quickly set her down and gently held her face. Only then did I realize tears had already begun to fall from my eyes.
"Mama will explain later, okay? But for now, can we just go home, Lexi? I promise, next time, nothing like this will happen," I said, brushing her hair gently.
"It's okay, Mama. I'm a little tired anyway," she smiled sweetly.
I smiled back. "Then you can rest, okay?"
Pagdating namin sa bahay, napansin kong tahimik si Lexus. It seemed like he was deep in thought. I sighed as I carried a sleeping Lexi to her room. After laying her on the bed, I headed to the living room where Lexus was sitting.
"He's our father," he said, matter-of-factly.
I stared at my hands resting on my lap for a few moments. "He's our father, right, Mama? The guy earlier?"
All I could do was nod.
"He looks exactly like me," he said, as if he were still processing the image of his father.
"Are you mad at Mama, baby?" I asked, my voice soft.
"Why would I be?" he replied, his blue eyes staring at me intently. For a moment, it felt like it was him—Logan—staring back.
I pushed that thought away and sat at Lexus' feet, taking his hands in mine. They were soft and warm. I still couldn't believe this boy was my child, my own flesh and blood.
"Masyadong mahina si Mama, Lexus. You're strong, but your mother's heart and body are weak. I'm sorry if I've caused you and Lexi any pain."
"Do you know why I'm strong, Mama? Because you're my mom," he said, wiping away my tears.
"I've never known what it's like to have a dad around. It's always been you, Mama. You're the one who never left us. You raised us, you gave us love. So don't ever doubt yourself—you're the best mom," he continued.
His words made me cry even more. How could my child talk like this? What did I do in my past life to deserve such amazing children like Lexus and Lexi?
"If you and Lexi ever want to meet him, I'll accept it. Just promise me, okay? If your paths cross again, be kind to him. I want you to have a good relationship with your dad," I said sincerely."How can you say that, Mama? He hurt you. Is that really okay with you?" Lexus asked.
"I want to keep you both for myself, but I don't want to take away your happiness and freedom. And you know what, Lexus? Even though he hurt me, I'm still thankful. He was my greatest wish that I couldn't have, but you and Lexi are my greatest blessings from him. For that, I'm grateful. Besides, where else would I find amazing children like you two?" I said, laughing a little as I teased him.
"Stop it, Mama!" he laughed.
"Want a power hug?" He smiled and gave me a warm, tight hug. This, right here, was home.
In a few days, the twins would turn five. I couldn't believe how fast time had flown.
"Why? Planning a party?" I asked Lily, catching her browsing party supplies online.
"Of course! We should go all out—maybe even rent a hotel or cater," she exclaimed.
I shook my head at her enthusiasm. "Remind me again, sino ba ang nanay ng kambal?"
"No need, Lily. You know the twins—they're not into stuff like that," I said. Honestly, they weren't materialistic. They'd be happy with a simple trip to their favorite spot and a small celebration.
"You're right. Maybe we'll just celebrate at your apartment. By the way, what have they been asking for lately?" she asked.
"Nothing specific. Lexi mentioned wanting a big cake, and for Lexus, some books would do," I said.
Lily nodded and went back to her laptop, but then she glanced at me with a curious look. "Have you seen it?"
I shook my head, confused. She showed me something on her screen, and my jaw dropped.
"Good for him," I managed to say, noticing how closely she was watching me.
"Is it good for you?" she asked, her tone challenging.
"Of course! He needs to settle down," I replied, trying to brush it off.
"Fine, that's your opinion," she said, her tone skeptical.
I sighed deeply, trying to shake off the thoughts. Logan Brandon was engaged.
And me? Well, I'm not affected... right? Okay, maybe I am. But it's good for him. He can finally marry the woman he loves. At least he'll be happy now, unlike when he married me without even a sliver of affection. It's sad, but that's life.
You can't make everyone love you. It's their choice, and we have to live with that.
We can't force ourselves into someone's life if they have no desire to know us. I had been so desperate to have him, willing to get hurt just to be near him. I wanted to experience life with him, even if it was just once, so I could say he was mine.
But I was young and foolish back then. I only cared about my own feelings, not realizing I was hurting him too. I kept hoping that maybe, someday, he'd return my love. But he never did.In the end, all he gave me was pain.
