The Last Job

The three arrived back at their camp. Fa was ignoring Torikk but instantly started tending to the girl in the cloaks wound. It was a deep puncture. Luckily it did not hit anything important. Fa packed the wound with a shredded wood she was soaking in a special mixture of herbs and fluids. The last time the girl asked what was in it she just became confused. After checking the girl for more wounds Fa went and started treating herself. The girl, of course, didn't let her do that alone.

"You would make a wonderful nurse," Fa said giggling as the girl applied the mixture from before to cuts and scrapes all over Fa's body. This was the first time she got to look at her body up close. She studied the blue markings that were covered so much of her skin. They fascinated her. They looked as if they were telling a story. Each one something special to Fa.

"Beautiful aren't they?" Fa's voice woke the girl from her trance. She found herself tracing the mark with her finger. Fa's skin was so soft. The girl shook her head as her face went flush.

"They. They are. What are they?" The girl felt so shy but felt she had to know.

"They are tattoos. Mine speak of what I have done. When we know we are safe I will tell you some of their stories little kitten." The girl saw something in Fa's eyes. Something she had only ever seen in Torikks eyes before now. She smiled back.

A few hours had passed and Torikk and Fa-Lees were alone and speaking in hushed tones.

"I only want to do one more job my love and then we can leave. You and the little kitten do not even need to join me. I just need him to know we could have defeated him." Torikk was pacing as he spoke.

"I know you would have," Fa spoke calmly, "Is that not enough for you. I do not want to be separated again like before."

"We won't be. I promise it will be fast my love. I give you my word." Fa only nodded.

After discussing much more it was agreed that we would all take part in this last job. The only reason we all got out alive before was we were all there, to begin with. At least that was the train of thought. This one was big and dangerous. They were going to steal the other gem to the set they were originally hired to get. If everything went right then it would be in and out in less than half an hour. They already knew where the gem was and they had a good idea of the security on the premises. The only trick they had to get down was actually getting the gem in their hands. Once that was done the rest would be a cakewalk.

Night had fallen. The girl was in her trusted cloak. Because of the cloak, she had a great ability to blend into shadows. So did Torikk. Because of this and only because of this the two of them were in charge of the initial scouting session. The girl slipped in with almost no sound being made whatsoever. While she did Torikk got in by jumping a wall on the opposite side of the facility. The two worked in perfect unison and were able to, in merely five minutes, scout the entire garden and lands. Torikk gave the sign and, to the girl's surprise, Fa jumped the wall. She made no sound upon her landing. With no words being said the three knew what to do. They all climbed a different side of the building in the center of the land. Gaining access through a slightly ajar window, the girl toe heeled her way through the well-lit building. The candles only allowed for a few dark spots. None the less the girl kept her cloak tightly wrapped around her body.

"We are clear little one we should move fast before it's too late." The girl thought an agreement and did as the cloak suggested. She had come to rely on his input almost like her very own second brain. "Fa and Torikk should be arriving at the point any moment little one, but do not rush. Now is not the time to make a stupid mistake." The girl cleared her mind. She had never said anything but the cloak knew just how panicked she was at her pace. She felt she was moving too slowly for the two older veterans. She didn't know if they were burglars at a young age or one of their adventures together but she knew she would have to ask, later that was. For now, she needed to catch up, safely, so they were not exposed.

The girl came around the corner to find Torikk opening the cupboard in which the gem was placed, but to all of their fright when they peered within there was only a blade. A horrifically familiar blade. It was, in fact, the blade that the girl had stuck in the man's shoulder just days before. Laughter began to pour into the room. The three spun around and found the man they had been up against this entire time. Just before them was the boss of the gang. The man who ordered the destruction of their home.
