Gilbert turned as the sound of the train softly began to reach his ears.
He and Adam stood as it came into view. After roughest few months of his life, academically and personally, the sight was a huge release.
He turned to Hazel once the train stopped as Adam got on. Her train was coming later.
"I guess I'll see you after Christmas," he said. He would miss Hazel. She had become a good friend.
She nodded. Before he could react, she leaned forward and kissed him.
Panic flared like fire through Gilbert's entire body. He immediately pushed her away as the horrible realization of what had just happened settled like a boulder in his stomach.
Hazel stared at him, shock and confusion mingled in her expression. "I'm sorry, I thought-"
"No," he interrupted, as incomprehensible as she was. "You can't...I can't...what am I..."
"I'm sorry," she repeated. "I didn't know-"
Gilbert swiftly turned and boarded the train before she could finish.
Dear Lord, what was he going to do?

"I'm a little disappointed you can't come to lunch with us," Diana complained.
She and Anne were walking the streets of Charlottetown arm in arm. They had just left Queens on break and the girls were planning on going to lunch to celebrate.
"I'm sorry, Diana," Anne chuckled. "I promised Gilbert that I would meet him when his train arrived." She looked up at the big clock and gasped. "Which should be any moment!"
Diana laughed and nudged her. "Okay, go on. We'll see you at the train."
Anne nodded and ran off.
As she got to the station, she was disappointed to see that the train had already arrived. Among the huge crowd of people, she immediately started searching for Gilbert.
She sighed in frustration. It was almost impossible with how dense the crowd was.
"Anne!"
Anne turned to see a familiar curly-haired brunette running towards her. A wide smile took over her face.
"Gil!" she exclaimed happily.
As soon as they reached each other, Gilbert took her in his arms, spinning her around.
"I missed you so much!" they said at the same time.
They pulled away and stared into each other's eyes for a moment before Gilbert pulled her into a greedy kiss.
Anne melted into his embrace. She hadn't realized she could miss someone's kiss so much.
Though being able to talk without writing the words down took both of them some getting used to, they tried their hardest.
To Anne's growing concern, no matter how much she tried to ignore it, she could still sense the something in Gilbert's voice like she did in his letters. Only this time, instead of resign, it seemed to be overwhelming guilt.
The feeling made a massive pit form in her stomach.
