I change into clean clothes my mother brought me from home, in the hospital room bathroom. The two days pass quickly, oddly.
I throw on the familiar tide smelling clothes quickly and aim for the bathroom handle, just when I suddenly come to a halt. I turn and carefully look in the mirror, realizing this is the first time looking at my horrid reflection.
My pale face contains minor black bruises, small bumps on my forehead, swollen lip, and sprawled scrapes along my entire face.
It could've been worse.
Quickly, I step out of the bathroom and into the hospital room containing only patient Dan and unexpectedly, an attractive young female nurse, who seems to be eyeballing Dan.
Mom went back to work.
Noticing my appearance, she snaps out of the stare that's covering Dan, "Well Ms. Walker, before you check out I have to read you some safety guide lines." The nurse with the name tag of; Marie, said.
Probably because they knew I meant to sit in front of the vehicle.
I assuredly nod my head, not feeling uncomfortable with Dan in the room with me.
"Okay. It's my job to help people who feel insecure about themselves and have the urges to cause harm to their bodies-"
More like it's your job to flirt with people's 'friends'.. I'm not jealous.
"So, if you ever need to talk or feel like you may want to cause harm towards yourself, then come back to the hospital. To assure your safety, there will be no driving behind the wheel, drinking, smoking, etc, while under the supervision of another."
Pretty clear to me, except one thing.
"Who's supervision am I going to be under?" I curiously ask.
"With your parents permission, they signed Daniel Coulter Reynolds. Who will be around you twenty-four-seven, considering the work of both your parents, until the hospital and your guardians feel the security of your safety."
Okay then.
"Okay Ms. Walker, do you understand the rights read to you?"
What am I, in prison?
"Yes." I answer.
"Good, you're free to go after you sign this paper."
I roll my tired eyes, and search for a pen, then clearly print my name on the file, and suddenly watch Nurse Marie leave the quiet room.
Moments after, "Ready to go?" Dan sweetly asks, lifting my clean clothes bag over his shoulder.
"Yeah, but you're driving." I laugh and announce.
Dan giggles towards my remark, and with the other arm, opens the hospital room door for me, then follows me out like a shadow.
