After our family brunch in Shangri-la, Patch dragged me to walk around and I couldn't say no. Pinaalam niya agad ako kay Papa at inuto-uto niya si Tita Pate para pumayag na iwanan kaming dalawa sa mall, just like that—she got her yes.
Sobrang kulit ni Patch, hindi pa man kami nagkakasama ng halos isang araw ay marami na akong narinig na kuwento tungkol sa buhay niya. I was really interested to hear it because I wanna know how different our lives had been for years.
"Actually, Heidden and I are really LDR because you know—he's older than me and he's running their company in Cebu."
"But weren't you afraid to break your relationship just like that?" I asked curiously.
Iyong pakikipaghiwalay niya sa nobyo ang napag-usapan naming dalawa habang naglalakad. I wanna learn about it, why is it so easy for her? I don't know much about relationships but I know that it shouldn't be that way.
Tumawa siya.
"Why would I? God, ang daming lalaki na puwedeng maging boyfriend diyan!"
"No, you don't get it." I shook my head. "I mean, having a relationship means you love each other—and you broke up with him unreasonably, Patch. What do you think he'll feel about it?"
"Believe me, Pal. We'll get back together after New Year! O baka hindi nga New Year, e. Sa tingin ko hahanapin na naman ako noon dito, susuyurin ang mundo para magkaayos kami! Parang aso kaya 'yon!"
Ngumiwi ako. "Aso talaga?"
I can't see myself hurting a man like that but maybe Patch is just too confident about her ex boyfriend. She thinks that he'll just run after her even how mean she is.
"Yes, I love that kind of dog!" she pouted and made a sad sound. "I kinda miss him now, it's been a week since I broke up with him and changed my number. I deactivated my social media accounts, too, just to make sure."
Oh my goodness, she's so unbelievable.
"Paano kung hindi ka niya hanapin at hayaan ka na lang? Mahal mo pala siya. That would be your loss." Naiiling kong sinabi.
"Tss, ang nega mo naman mag-isip! Calm down and wait for it! I trust myself, I'm unforgettable! Mind you, I am his first love and that... never dies!"
I just flinched.
Hay naku, natatawa pa talaga siya sa pinagsasabi niya habang hindi ako makapaniwala sa mga naririnig.
Ganoon ba ang mga lalaki? Naghahabol na parang aso? Whatever she says, it's really unacceptable. Even how much he loves her, he'd be hurt to hear that unreasonable break up. Sino ba namang sisira ng long time relationship dahil lang ayaw niyang mag-update sa nobyo?
Patch and I went to a boutique to check some clothes, nagkukuwentuhan kami habang namimili. Dito yata kami magkakasundo ni Patch, parehas kaming maluho kahit hindi naman kailangan. I just really enjoy shopping, I love makeups and sneakers even though I don't use makeup a lot. Tuwing may okasyon lang o maisipan ko.
Halos napuntahan namin ang lahat ng madaanang boutique at bawat labas ay may dalang paperbags. I bought a lot of things, for sneakers and makeup collection. Nangagalay na ang mga braso ko sa dalahin, we decided to stop for a while.
"Grabe, nakakapagod! I think we should call someone to fetch us? Ang dami nating dala at mabibigat!" lumakad si Patch papasok sa isang coffee shop.
I followed her, nilapag ko ang mga paperbags sa sahig at naupo habang si Patch ay nanatiling nakatayo at nakatanaw sa stall.
"Grab na lang?" I suggested.
