I'm not sure what took me out to meet Chancent, or did I ever confirm that I'd meet him? I didn't reply on his last text and he texted again about what they were planning to do, all in all—I didn't confirm our meeting nor my sudden come out.
Basta ang alam ko ay naglalakad na ako sa malambot na puting buhangin ng beach at natatanaw ang ilang Estrevillo na nakilala ko kasama ang iba pang hindi pamilyar habang naglalaro.
Austrid in a black and white checkered bikini, jumped and spiked the ball powerfully and the guy on the other team wasn't able to catch it. She clapped cheerfully and high five with Heidden, they're teammates. Naglalaro sila ng volleyball gaya nga ng impormasyon ni Chancent kanina.
Ginala ko ang tingin, Chancent wasn't playing but I saw him laughing while sitting on the ground with red boardshorts only, he's just watching.
"This is so unfair! We're not volleyball players, Cien!"
"Wala sa ganoon 'yon! Anyone can play this game, stop being a baby!"
"Even so! We're not as experienced as her!"
"This is fifteen freakin' bucks! I don't wanna lose without a fight, get Austrid out of your team!"
"Awe, scared!"
"I'm not, I just don't want a game with unfair players!"
Pumalakpak si Heidden para muli silang bumalik sa paglalaro. Nagtatalo pa ang ilan sa kanila at tinataboy si Austrid na tumatawa lang sa mga reklamo.
"Stop crying, guys! I have an ankle injury, this is just fair. I'm being careful!" Austrid laughed.
I inhaled simply and watched them for a while, hindi naman ako pansin sa kinatatayuan ko dahil may mga nanonood din sa kanila. Nakakaaliw iyon sa ilang minuto dahil puro reklamo ang kabilang grupo, halos lahat kasi ng puntos ay kila Austrid.
I glanced at Chancent again, naagaw ang pansin ko noong babaeng bagong dating at nakabikini rin. She immediately clung onto Chancent's arm as she sat beside him.
I puckered my lips and shrugged my thoughts about him and his probable girlfriend... of the month? Hmm.
Nagtagal ako ng ilang minuto, malagkit man ang simoy ng panghapong hangin ay hindi naman nakakairita sa pakiramdam. Naaaliw talaga ako sa panonood. Minsan ko ring ginusto ang sports na iyon, kaso hindi ako para roon.
I was chuckling quietly while watching the game when I got a glimpse of Chancent, it was so unintentional—I didn't even notice myself glancing at his side, our eyes just met.
Uminit ang pisngi ko sa hiya pero hindi ko pinahalata iyon sa kilos, I nodded a bit and started planning my leave. What to do? How should I leave now?
Huminga ako ng malalim nang makita ko siyang tumayo mula sa buhanginan, kinuha niya ang shirt sa lapag at sinampay iyon sa kanyang balikat. That was the moment, I decided to walk away in a normal manner like I wasn't really watching there for minutes already.
"Hey, Sileas!" he called while following me.
I turned with a little smile. "Hey..."
He chuckled. "I didn't expect you're watching here."
"Uh, kararating ko lang. Walang magawa sa guesthouse."
"Hmm." He walked beside me, nagsuot na siya ng kanyang sleeveless shirt. "You free, then?"
I nodded. "Why?"
"Nothing. What do you wanna do?"
Napaisip ako, wala akong magawa sa guesthouse kaya lumabas ako at nagluluto pa lang sila Tita Fili. The guesthouse was just near the beach, hindi kalayuan ang nilakad ko pero medyo masakit na ang paa ko sa buhangin at gusto ko na lang maupo. It's not a bad idea to sit and watch the people around.
