"Are you better, Roman?" Several days later and Roman found himself standing there beside the couch with clenched fists. Patton just smiled as Roman nodded and sat down beside him. Virgil laid on the table curled up asleep as Roman glanced over and tilted his head in thought. "Ro..."
"Remus came to talk to me. It wasn't long or... extravagant but they said something that stuck with me." He reached out letting his fingers brush against the lizard's scales smiling slightly as it started to purr sleepily.
"And what would that be?" Roman sighed as he leaned back and frowned.
"Pat, you know a lot now... you know the past and can see the future... Can you tell me how long I have?" Patton frowned as Roman shook. "Remus didn't mean it the way he said it. They were just trying to spur me out of my room but... They made a comment about them being a demon and can live for practically forever but the stress of caring for me will send them to an early grave. It got me thinking. If Remus's lifespan has increased so much to practically forever because he's a demon... How long can Virgil live for? He's a dragon. Dragon are demons. Meaning Virgil would have the same life span as Remus. On top of that fucking Janus's a demon too..." Roman growled as he ran a hand through his hair before laughing brokenly. "Maybe Virgil should be with Janus. They'd understand each other... and they'd be able to live together properly. Virgil would get what? Another 79 years with me, if I'm lucky. Besides who would want to stay with a 100-year-old?" Roman fake gagged all while Patton just sat there listening.
"It doesn't really sound like you're asking me anything, Roman." Roman sighed as he rested his head in his hand.
"I guess, I'm not." Roman frowned as he shook his head. "It just hit me, I guess. I'm human. Yes, I know that I'm a druid and druid have long lives that normal human but given our history how many of us ever actually get to experience our long life." Patton's frown grew and Roman laughed again. "See... I knew it."
"Roman, Were are you getting at?"
"I'm just saying that... maybe commenting himself to me isn't in his best interest." Patton sighed as he took Roman's and making the other look over at him.
"Kiddo, he chose you as his rider. Even if you two were to cancel the wedding... Even if he were to leave you... he could never LEAVE you. He's bonded in such a way, nothing will break it. It's stronger than any marriage certificate."
"But what about..."
"Kiddo, you should live the years you have together." Patton squeezed Roman's hand tightly as tears pricked the other's eyes. "It doesn't matter how long it is. Whether its decades... or millennia... you two should be happy."
"I'm destined to die and Virgil will have to live with that, Patton. Do you know how long Dragon's are said to live? I'll tell you. THEY CAN LIVE FOREVER!" Roman's voice echoed loudly starling Virgil who looked up through his hazy eyes to see Roman shaking. "Dragon's typically can live for over 1,000 years. Strong ones... maybe 2,000. The thing is though Patton, that's only because they've been kill before getting old. They're demons. And Demons literally don't die unless killed... Who's to say a dragon is any different?"
"They aren't Roman. That's why Demons tend to be with other demons." Roman's face paled as Patton spoke so factually. "The only way for you two to have a long and fulfilling life together is for you both to be demons. Roman, You have to stop thinking about this. It won't change anything."
"Pat, you literally just confirmed what I've been trying to tell you." Virgil frowned pushing himself up before jumping onto Roman's leg. "I'm human... And I'm already mental. I just can't... I want Virgil to be happy. He'll never be happy with me." Roman frowned feeling the lizard paw at him.
"Who's saying that? Roman... or the insanity?" Roman's eyes darkened as Patton just shook his head. "Look. I can sit here and tell you everything I know. I can go into detail and tell you every little blip on the timeline but the moment I do... It'll change. It's better you don't know. It'll be easier for you to get to where you need to be that way." Roman scoffed as he absentmindedly pet the lizard who had curled up in his lap. "Roman, I can promise you this. If things work out... all this worrying will be pointless. So stop being so scared and focus on getting just a little bit better ok?"
"ok." Patton smiled as he moved like he was looking towards the door.
"Good... because you're brother needs me?" Roman's eyes shot wide as Patton started to leave.
"Wait... How is Logan? I haven't seen him in a while." Patton bit his lip trying to think of something to say but in all his knowledge he just couldn't figure it out. "Patton, what's going on?"
"Nothing, Kiddo. Everything is ok?"
"Than why don't I believe you?" Patton frowned as he shook his head ignoring the thought he was picking up from Roman. "If something is going on with Lo, I have a right to know. He's my brother."
"Everything is fine Roman. Your brother is ok. Nothing is going on with Logan." Roman narrowed his eyes as he tensed up.
"For a psychic, you sure are bad at lying." Patton cringed before letting out a sorry breath. "Tell me please, what's going on?"
"You're brother's fine. He's just busy. It isn't my place to say anything." Roman went to say something but Patton just smiled cutting him off before he could. "When he's ready to tell you, Logan will inform you of it all himself. Until them... please try not to worry."
