Gabe's P.O.V

"Dad?", I called, walking in the door.

"He's out-"

"Nope, I'm home.", dad cut off Braxton, our butler/person who keeps our heads on.

"I thought you were gonna be late tonight.", Braxton said. He shrugged,

"My boy had a date."

"It wasn't a date.", I groaned. They both chuckled.

"Well how was your 'wasn't a date'?", Braxton asked.

"I really like her family too."

"She should come to dinner sometime.", dad suggested.

"Pick a day you'll actually be home for dinner and I'll bring her.", I snapped slightly, "I want you to meet her. Really bad."

"I'm sorry I'm not home a lot Gabe.", he apologized bitterly, "Why does it matter so much that I meet her? I want to and all but, why is it a big deal?"

"Because you're my dad? You mean more to me than anyone. I really wanna ask her out but I won't until you know her and you barely even know me. I just want you to approve.", I whispered, turning and going upstairs to my room. I sat on my bed and let out a shaky breath.

"Gabe!", dad yelled. I opened my door,

"What?", I called slightly.

"I love you." "I'm sorry." "I'll meet her tomorrow."

"Lose the attitude." Of course.

"Yes sir.", I whispered, closing the door as tears rolled down my cheeks. I was tired of letting him see me like this. Tired of him leaving me and then spending his ten minutes home fixing it and promising to do better. I was tired of letting him destroy me.

"Gabe?", Braxton whispered, knocking on the door.

"I'm fine." He sighed as I heard him sit on the other side of the door,

"He doesn't mean to hurt you."

"I know. I'm fine Brax. Really.", my voice cracked.

"Can I come in?"

"No, I'm fine."

"No you're not kid. I hate it when you guys fight." I forced a laugh,

"Yeah? It's not my favorite pastime either." I sighed, "I love him more than anyone. I just wish he was home more. I wish he actually knew me. I wish he was home last week when I won our basketball game. Or when I aced that test. I've had so many opportunities for him to be proud of me and he hasn't been here for any of them."

"I'm proud of you. You know that, right?"

"Yeah. I know Brax."

"I know he works too much. I agree. But he has a very demanding job so we can live how we do."

"I'd rather live in a box and have my dad than live like this without him. He promised me."

"Promised you what?"

"That I'd never lose him too."
